Well, there you go. Admittedly I was a kid at the time but I had no memory of Maurice captaining the club. 12 games in 1985.

Other surprises: Michael Pickering captained 20 games in 1988/89/90. Benny Gale skippered 21 times. Balmey did it once. Gaspar once. Maric once. Bowden once. Richo 15 times (completely forgot that), Brown 3 times (ditto). Lids only 4 times.

Shane Edwards will become the 105th player to captain Richmond throughout the Club’s entire history, when he leads the Tigers out against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday.

The 30-year-old veteran of 234 AFL games has been appointed Richmond’s fill-in skipper for the match because of the absence of injured captain Trent Cotchin and vice-captains Alex Rance and Jack Riewoldt.
