It's a torn quadriceps tendon. A completely different beast to a muscle strain.
Yeah from what I've heard about it, it's such a dangerous injury because you can keep damaging it. Have to really carefull. Kind of like achillies injuries just got to be so careful because you just keep getting sore

Yep. From my limited medical knowledge is very similar to Patton's injury, where they had to send him to Sweden(?) for treatment.

Do it. Even if they have to steal from The Flight Plan, do it. If for no other reason than to ensure he is 100% for 2013, do it.

He is one of the pillars of our midfield moving forwards, and we need to ensure this injury is completely done with so it doesn't become a theme for the rest of his career.

Think torn hamstring tendon - These are 12 to 16 week injuries - Nicoski still hasn't recoved from his torn tendon in the pre-season ( hamstring ) Unsure how more/less serious is a quadricep tendon.

No, it's a completely different injury. Patton has an issue with patella tendinopathy, which is essentially a knee problem, whereas Zaka by the sound of it has the quadriceps tendon tear, which is further up the leg. Either way, both injuries are severe long term problems.

I've been battling patella tendinopathy for about a year or so, the quadriceps tendon is the tendon that connects the patella to the quad.

I.e it the tibia > patella tendon > knee cap > quadricep tendon > quadricep. It's the other half of the patella tendon.

Anyway, long story short it is an extremely serious, very slow healing injury. I personally would have rather done an ACL then my patella tendon.

I feel that mate, i've had that exact injury since the start of 2009. Tried so many rehab methods it is not funny.

If you have enough flow, get yourself to Sweden and see Hakan Alfredson - he is the tendon wizard who fixed Patton and has recently treated Jack Wilshere for the same injury. Apparently only a 6-8 week recovery with amazing results.

Zaka doesn't have this injury though as I understand it, his is more focussed on the rectus femoris tendon that runs over the femur.

Poor uni student unfortunately! Good luck with your rehab. :thumbsu:

Where did you hear about the fact is was the rectus femoris tendon?

Edit.

Are you sure? Still seems like the only one it could be is the quad tendon attaching to the patella.

I miss Zaka but I've resigned myself to the fact that even if he does come back he won't have any fitness and won't be able to make any difference. Might as well just focus on getting him fit and not push him back early in any way. If he happens to fully recover then sure play him but otherwise just get him right for the pre-season. The main thing is not to risk him reinjuring or exacerbating his existing injury. He's going to be a gun mid for us for many years, can't risk that for minor short term benefits.

Will become an issue of whether you'd risk him to pinch a final. It is so hard to know whether it is 2 to 4 from auto inclusion based on the work load he has been doing (he said last Friday that the only thing he isn't doing is short explosive sprints - this seems at odds with him potentially needing another month off) or whether we are looking at a resumption through Bendigo.

I have to say that, with the rest of the side falling in a heap injury-wise, it may almost be time to put Zaharakis on ice for the rest of the season.

Anyone else surprised at how poorly Zaharakis polls?
Not hugely.

The umps are no different from the media - they typically have a delayed reaction, and then they really start noticing younger players a lot. Took Cotchin and Beams a while to get out of the blocks, and Zaka only really had a month of solid form before the injury.
