My biggest problem with this restart is where the young guys can play. Without the seconds players like cox, mead etc cant show case what they can do.
And with a smaller list looking inevitable, a bunch of players will be cast aside without a real shot
We will be playing scratch matches against the teams in the hub with us.

Believe we are also having a scratch match V crows this weekend for those who don’t get a game.

Hopefully those games at least get recorded an put online.

Do we have the whole list in the hub then? we would need everyone to field two lots of 22

Yes, as far as I am aware the whole list is going.

Given they are scratch matches, I believe clubs can agree to “bend” the rules in relation to numbers etc to suit how many players each side has available.

Its not gospel, but on radio Xavier the other day suggested that not the whole team would be going to the GC which probably means there won't be reserves games up there. Which is a huge shame. We need to see how Bergman, Mead and Williams go. We've invested big time into those kids, we need them playing and improving and knocking on the AFL door.

argh thats frustrating. not to mention a few senior guys need a run!

"With SA’s AFL clubs not in the SANFL this year, players overlooked for the Showdown will face off in a trial on Saturday. Tyson Stengle is set to be among them. "
Please tell me this is being streamed somewhere.

Correct.
Only 30 or so going to the hub, which is why we were planning to ask the AFL to have extra staff to look aftervthem above the 25 limit.
Think WC were also leaving players behind in perth?

Will we be one of the only teams not playing scratch matches after this week then? Crows suggested they will plan matches against other hub teams, so presumably are taking most, if not all, of their squad.

What's the benefit to leaving some (fit) players behind?

Why? AFL 12's or AFL 15's might be an option. AFL in mid May said

However, there are complications with this set-up, given the length of injury lists and number of available players can be drastically different from club to club.

That could lead to condensed games, less players on each team, or possibly even a situation where footballers on rival clubs might play alongside one another if necessary.

Any such matches would be held in a controlled environment, in line with AFL and government guidelines.

Hopefully post GC trip our reserves do get games, but yeah I personally can't see AFL 12s or 15s having the same effect for development.

If we aren't going to win the flag, the best thing for us might actually be a stack of injuries to some of the older guys so our kids get games this year.

So joining some dots from yesterday's pressers by Morrison and the SA one with Marshall and Spurrier.

Port's last scheduled game at the moment in SE Qld hub is Rd 5 Saturday night July 4th at Gabba v Brisbane. crows play the next day.

Marshall said that border restrictions would be removed on Monday 20th July at this stage but could be earlier.

The news report in both tweets below from 9 News last night talks about removing them earlier as everything seems to be flexible except for opening up for night clubs and live music festivals.

If the restrictions are removed by or on Friday 10th July you would think 1 SA team that weekend could play a fly in fly out Vic or NSW team and the other SA team has to play in NSW or Vic so might go straight from Qld to NSW or Vic.

Would be stupid not to be flexible to remove restrictions for footballers on Friday 17th July if state opens up completely on July 20th and mean only 1 week of disruption not 2.

First tweet says that maximum capacity next Friday goes from 20 per room x 4 rooms =80 max per venue to 75x4=300 limits to be scrapped from next Friday 19th June, so pubs, clubs, restaurants, cinemas, theatres indoor stadiums, museums galleries etc, BUT provided they have room to adhere to 1 person per 4m2 rule. Monday June 29 ScoMo's Step 3 brought forward by a week and max limit capacity are removed and only 1 person x 4m2 is only consideration when making calculation how many to let in. Competitive indoor sports starts that date. July 20 no more quarantining for people entering SA, might be brought forward for better performing states and territories.

Would be bizarre if AFL players subject to higher protocols than other exempt employees from Victoria can fly in and not quarantine either the weekend starting Friday 17th July or week earlier 10th July.

Tom Rehn in his report says AFL looking at Fly in Fly out from 25th July ( but probably need a WA hub given McGowan's tough stance) ie Rd 8. Says could be brought forward as AFL still negotiating with SA government.
