Trainor's terrific transition to Tigerland

Luke Trainor has made an excellent start to his AFL career with Richmond.

The talented 19-year-old, 193cm defender, who was taken by the Tigers with their fourth pick (No. 21 overall) in the 2024 AFL national draft, is averaging 16.8 disposals, 5.4 marks, 3.4 rebound-50s, 3.4 intercepts and 339.2 metres gained across the first five games of the season.

He is ranked No. 1 among AFL rising stars for kicks, No. 1 for rebound-50s, No. 2 for metres gained, No. 3 for total disposals, No. 3 for marks and No. 3 for intercepts.

Trainor produced the best performance of his fledgling AFL career against Fremantle at Barossa Park last Sunday.

Displaying a maturity way beyond his years, Trainor stood up superbly in Richmond’s backline and did everything in his power to repel the Dockers’ forward entries, particularly throughout the second half.

He finished the match with an AFL career-high 22 disposals, career-high 10 marks, career-high six rebound-50s, career-high five intercepts and career-high 412 metres gained.

193cm? He’s ****ing shrunk since he got to punt rd.

What a phenomenal amount of luck clubs were scared of selecting him due to concussion concerns. Already looks like he's been around for years. Can't wait to see him in a few years when we've got Balta, Brown, Gibcus and Trainor fully in sync and not under the pump like now. Got on him at his juicey opening odds of 67/1, he's still 34/1 which is awesome value with his consistency. I'd love to see Yze throw his magnet around a few times especially when Balta and Gibcus return just to see. Who knows maybe Doug Wade spent years teaching lil Lukey how to put it through the big sticks.

Some of his kicks have been poor which is surprising since it was mentioned as a strong suit. But hopefully that gets better with time, and other than that he has been fantastic. A few slipped tackles and mistakes, but that's to be expected this early on.

Another 22 disposals, 10 marks today! Wonder if he will get some recognition as no real other Rising Star candidates have had big games.

Lukes put together a bloody good 5 games so far.
Aside from Archie Roberts the day before having 28D @85%, 8 marks and 6 tackles...
Trainor's time will come with a nomination though, 0 doubt about that

193cm is a good defender height. You want that Grimes type who is versatile with good skills, fast, hard at it. We are still missing a big Brutus 195cm plus lockdown type. Even if Gibcus makes it he is more your Lever. Balta is older and will be past his peak when we contend. Might get a year or two out of him contending.

Hope no further head knocks and other injuries, touch wood!!!

Where are people getting this 193cm from ?
He was listed as 195cm pre draft and Richmond website has him at 195cm also

Plus looking at him next to Noah Balta and Jonty Faull he looks even taller than the others
