Hoping he plays this week. My cousins are playing for the Stingrays and i will go watch them if Luke is playing for Oakleigh.

Otherwise i will stay home and touch myself.
Basti's younger brother could be playing for the stingers. Kicked a goal or two last week I think.

Come to think of it, JMac's younger brother is playing for Oakleigh too.

As long as you don't go mixing up activities and venues. There are repercussions for touching yourself while watching junior football games.

There can be only one...

This is what is going to be waiting for the Chief at Hardon St if the Duke doesn't come across. :p

Young Luke played for Trinity College this morning against Yarra Valley. he started in the centre and played there for 2/3rds of the quarters then drifted forward when he felt tired he injured his left eforearm and was off for most of the second quarter.I would not say he dominated but he would have clearly been in the best would have had a possession count in the low 20s would be my guess but was very clean.

He seems to just drift around the ground not often excellerating to the contests but when he gets a sniff of the ball coming his way he is quite quick for his size. Today he played like Simon Black but quicker of course. Did not get many clearances from the centre but conditions were difficult and greasy and the ruckman were just negating each other and the ball often just fell at there feet so that did not help that.
The most impressive part of his game today was his ability to mark anything he went for he was by far the best kick on the ground and in the third quarter kicked two goals one from a tightish angle on the non preferred side of the ground and another when he just ran through the pack at a boundary throw in, that was a special goal not disimilar to the goal David Swallow kicked last week.

Thanks for the write up. :thumbsu: Will reach God like status on this board, if he hasn't already.:p

With Basti signing looks like we've got one first rounder this year then Luke the next. I would love to have a crystal ball and see the best 22 in 2015.

Sounds like we will have the two best players in the history of the game.
Don't know who out of the duke and the duck will be number 1. :)

We might have to let Luke slip with the plethora of options starting to hit their straps. Kennedy, Sierra and even Richo (better than Isaac Smith) plus the golden boot McKenzie. Do we really need the Duke?

Thanks, Roobound. Sounds very promising.

How about if we sign him young we look after him and try not to let some desperate older player smash his jaw. That was horrible for Viney.

Apologies for my ignorance, but how were they aquired?
I started "the Duke". Given the potentiality, hype around this kid, people describing him as a quarterback type marshalling the backline and forward into attacks. That sounds like leadership and need a leader's name.

I just thought "Duke" is appropriate playing on his first name Luke. Just like we called Carey The King, Luke McDonald is the Duke. :D It also roll off the tongue well with his surname.

Two dogs? how come?

Maybe we need a thread for newcomers, new people, for all North nicknames past, present and future, plus explanations/history behind them?

He can't be drafted for another year and they are already falling over each other.

Clubs eye Roo father-son

Jake Niall

May 13, 2012

RIVAL clubs have expressed interest in North Melbourne's highly-rated potential father-son Luke McDonald, whose father, North football department chief, Donald McDonald has removed himself from negotiations with the club over his son's future.

North is expected to commit to McDonald a year before he is eligible for the draft and perhaps secure him on a long-term contract, to head off interest. Collingwood and Gold Coast head the list of clubs that have inquired about whether McDonald - a prospective top five draft pick next year - could be available as one of the prized 17-year-olds who Greater Western Sydney must trade this year.

North Melbourne confirmed last night that Donald McDonald had placed all discussions in the hands of his manager, Paul Connors, to remove himself from any conflict of interest.

North said the club's negotiations over McDonald would be handled by the club's list manager Cameron Joyce, recruiting manager Bryce Lewis and, if necessary, chief executive Eugene Arocca.

North's situation with McDonald, a genuine utility who plays for Oakleigh Chargers, is similar to that of Melbourne and its father-son recruit Jack Viney, whose father is also employed by his club. Viney jnr secured a five-year deal, as did Barry Mitchell's son, Tom, whom the Swans recruited with their first pick, via the bidding system for father-sons, in last year's national draft.

One complication for players in Luke McDonald's position is that he would receive an extra year's payment of about $70,000 if he chooses to enter the ''mini draft'' for GWS's two remaining 17-year-olds and was traded to another club. GWS must trade these 17-years-olds for either players or picks this year.

''I've had dialogue with North,'' said Connors. ''We'll be meeting in the near future to discuss Luke's possible recruitment.'' McDonald jnr has been to the club for training and received some tutelage from former midfielder and development coach Brady Rawlings.
