Tom Papley

Player Profile

Tom Papley swapped his plumbing tools for a Sherrin when the Sydney Swans sprung a draft surprise in 2015 – and the pocket-rocket forward has since become a crucial member of coach John Longmire’s side. Papley has played 20 or more senior games in every one of his four full seasons in the AFL and was at his best in 2019, topping Sydney’s goal-kicking leaderboard and finishing fourth in the Bob Skilton Medal voting. The Gippsland Power product took on more time in the midfield in 2019 and is likely to again split his time between the forward line and centre bounce this year. Papley was selected in the AFL Players’ Association’s 22Under22 team in 2017. Draft history: 2016 Rookie Draft selection (Sydney) No. 12; 2016 AFL Draft rookie elevation (Sydney).

There is a way out for him , but it is now in the too hard basket for other clubs . He loves the club …..
Cheers Bedders.

Hope he sticks around as a 1 club champion. Reckon he's a bloody gun. Looking forward to seeing him develop the next few years. He could be "elite" if he puts it all together.

Hi guys, pardon the intrusion.

Good to hear that he is contracted, but it is much longer than first though. Even better is that the Swans are going to hold him to account for the duration of his contract which should see him remain loyal enough to stay around long term.

Genuinely could be anything such has been his rapid development. Great job by the Swans.

In the end, it's not hard to join the dots and to work out why Carlton was aware of his potential availability (however slim that might be) and from all reports they really didn't have the full understanding of the story either.

Apparently we're a chance if Daniher wants to go to Swans?
Daniher and Papley trades have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Theres no link.
If Daniher is traded to the swans, It will cost our first round pick. If the swans want a first round pick, they need to trade Papley. Paps is worth way more than a first round pick to our list, so the Swans won't trade him for that reason.

Maybe if we trade out Papley we can draft a player as good as him? :drunk:

Daniher will cost a lot more than one first round pick in what is largely perceived as a soft draft.
There are no Rozees, Smiths nor Kings around this mark this year. Clubs would clearly know this.
Carltons pick #8 could come in somewhat handy in the mix and I feel the CFC would hand that over for Papley, should he and the Swans be interested.

Long way to go but a Papley trade could well end up a good thing for both our clubs and our respected needs.

RFA so they can match anyway and still force a trade
They can’t & won’t match. They are tight for space after signing Stringer, Shiel,Smith & struggled to hold Tippa & Zaharakis last year. They won’t match anything we are prepared to throw at him & freeing up space in the cap to keep others is what this whole Daniher to Swans possibility is about.

Piss off mate, don't tell us a Papley trade is good a thing. Ta.

Any trade is potentially good when the ins outweigh the outs. That's what 'trades' are about.
Someone like Daniher won't eventuate without a shuffle of picks/players. This is somewhat obvious, given he's not a FA.

Tell me to P off if you like, but how exactly would you like for Daniher to join your club?

Why don't you trade out Cripps, it might do wonders for your club according to your philosophy.
