A "like" on BigFooty isn't going to make me spill the beans but if you want the link to the Herald Sun article here it is (photos of young Gerard with an earring and all):

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/ge...c/news-story/de23d1c1d4e38109cd8fdab7fb6c27c1
.
Drew Morphett, who worked with Whateley for 10 years at the ABC, agrees with Robinson’s assessment that Gerard is ambitious, but differs in his assessment about how that ambition burns through.

“I’m in an awkward position here because I was made redundant by the ABC and Gerard took my spot calling cricket. Do you think Justin Leppitsch is going to absolutely love the bloke who takes over from him? I don’t think so,” said Morphett, 66.

“Having said that I think he’s a fantastic host on both AFL 360 and pre-match on the radio. He has an ability to put sentences together with clarity. He doesn’t require a lot of notes, relying on a sharp mind that has its own index. And he asks good questions.

“As a caller I personally don’t think he’s the greatest of all time. His style of calling a close game of football or horse race is to scream as loudly as he can with guttural tones. He loses clarity. You have to broadcast in gears.”

Morphett sat in the same office as Whateley for a decade and was intrigued by a personality he found “aloof and self-centred”: “Gerard is incredibly ambitious. Part of that is putting massive effort into winning awards and his entries are very good, even if he would have been shattered at not winning a Logie last year.

“He will end up the most decorated bloke in the history of Australian sporting broadcasting. Some of that comes though him being an incredibly hard worker and how he wrote that book on Black Caviar, which was very good, was amazing.”

When told that Morphett had been interviewed for this article, Whateley preferred not to respond as he couldn’t see “any upside”.

there are no other teams worthy
Is Frances Leach gone?
I always avoided his hour as remember seeing him on Fox Footy Channel over a decade ago and did not impress me as a presenter/host type.
If he is gone, opens up a few more hours I may tune in to SEN from time to time.

Wayne Kerr. He's better than all his listeners!

I love Moons but he's not the right person, to be honest with someone like Ox or Harf, Jack would probably work well
Harf was the best they had, legit nearly shed a tear the day he left. Here’s hoping they can drag him back one day.

Tottenham. All Blacks. Storm.
I liked Finey but don’t think he will be missed, too many weird segments about numbers or initials etc. they all end up the same.

Maher back is disappointing, Hutchy needs to throw everything at Harf to get him back for that afternoon spot. That would really tie the lineup together.

Surely Mcclures hour will be a dedicated sports news hour type thing summing up the day and with plenty of audio. Kinda like they used to do on harfs show I think it was at 2pm or so.

I don’t mind Lyon and Watson but they’re example of why Australian sports coverage lags behind American.

The Yanks can easily cover numerous sports and cover a sport as if they’ve been doing it for years. They have researchers that gather the info but just as important they make some effort to watch other sports as well.

If you’re hosting a prime time morning sports show why wouldn’t take the time to watch a number of other sports? Lyon and Watson just don’t bother. Producers and back up crew don’t bother either. That’s the whole problem with SEN in the past.

I mean the other morning it’s like they ran out of material at 7.30 and invited listeners to call and try and pick the next Liam Jones/?Townsend(tiger guy) i.e this years surprise. FFS it’s mid January!

Have a feeling if they weren’t contracted for another 12 months they wouldn’t still have the gig.

Some of the responses from the public.

My personal favourites...
Station has gone to shit with the convicted student slave worker running the ship i turned off soon as crooked media took over.
Aka you knew you were getting the sack so got in first. You’ll be hanging around outside SEN in a couple of weeks trying to get a look in.

Harf has footy coaching at the Pies , so the mornings suit him
