Lacks personality which is hard to improve on, it's natural.

Should have kept Finey with a huge shake up, last chance program. I think it would've worked.

This is just so vanilla.
Agree.
Vanilla.
Not offensive or terrible just vanilla.

Fine connected with his audience. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but nobody pleases everyone.

Knew his stuff, researched, was forthright.

A mistake. In my view.

I also think KB would have worked better 12-3

If I could change things...

If this young (assuming he is young by his perma-grin style) Jack is someone that Hutchinson wants long term, then give him the role that Andy Maher currently has, as I've never understood his appeal. Give Finey this year to freshen up his show otherwise he will be moved on.

This Jack guy for an evening spot is just redundant. It's just advertisements and sports talk that is wet and non-engaging.

Jack was on EON Sports, and one of the reasons (among many) that EON Sports went down the drain, was the line up felt very vanilla.

It tried not to offend, to be something to everyone, never took talk-back calls, it just felt plain and static.

I remember a story of when Michael Gudinski signed Split Enz in the 70s after seeing them at a gig when they were booed off stage!
He's reasoning to signing them; "Any reaction is better than no reaction at all".

Upon hearing some of Whateley's show today, no doubt it was professional with the big name interviews covering a wide variety of sports, I just feel it's not in the right slot.

If I was SEN, I'd have KB (or someone with the KB vibe) in that morning slot, and I'd throw Whateley into breakfast.

I think his covering all sports type of show would work better with a faster pace in breakfast, kind of a re-cap of everything you missed last night and overnight in the world of sport, plus the big footy news stories.

I don't know who the producer of Whately's show is, but she/he should get serious credit of ensuring Gerard had a big name to start his show. It so happened that it is one of the biggest names in world sport. I would imagine organising that time would have been done weeks ago.

Any mention of Quartermain calling AFL for SEN as yet? Given he called for Croc Media last year and has a regular spot on Whately's show I'd guess it is a strpng possibility.

Jay Mueller he used to produce Eddie MCGuire's MMM Hot Breakfast , was with Neil Mitchell on 3aw before that

I actually came to this thread to mention this.

Gerard's main producer is Jay Mueller, an American who was the long-time producer of Triple M's Hot Breakfast with Eddie McGuire. Mueller left MMM at the end of last year.

To me this is as big a get as Whateley himself. I was very surprised and very impressed when I found out. Hot Breakfast had done well in the ratings for a while and Mueller (along with Eddie, I'm sure) was the reason behind it. Marrying Mueller's talents up with another ultra-professional in Whateley is a partnership which, in my eyes, can't fail.

Whats the big deal getting Federer? Seriously? Wow wee. He just won the local slam and is in a hotel 10 minutes down the road FFS!
If he got him in the studio itself, that might be impressive.

there are no other teams worthy
How long before SEN just cut up a highlights package from Whateley's morning show to repeat between 6-7pm each day for those that miss out?
Those that want to hear can download the morning stuff easily. No need to repeat on live air. Graveyard shift times they do that stuff already.

Are you serious. He was at government house , had an open presser and went straight on to SEN ahead of anyone else.

 The local slam? Only thing bigger in tennis is Wimbledon and he is the GOAT!

I actually missed it because I switched off after the Rod Laver interview because they started talking about American sports (have heard one of the replays since though).

No, some people THINK he is the GOAT.
Now, can we talk about something other than ******* tennis LOL!
Those 2 weeks of the year where everyone pretends to give a rats about tennis are over, thankfully.

Because no one else got him and other news outlets used parts of the SEN interview on their news

and think that he could take a call from major sporting media such as espn, but he took SENs.

What do you want them to talk about?

Think about it. A world recognised event, a major no less. Soon it will be F1 that's talked about. Then in june the World Cup will take centre stage. Also in April the NBA playoffs take shape. SEN will be booming.

What did you expect SEN to broadcast otherwise?
