At this time, 35 odd years ago, Sunday nights were pretty much spent getting sweetly stoned to Billy Pinnell's album show on EONFM, where he'd play deep tracks from classic albums (rarely done in those days...ahh, and still isn't), interview at length major artists, and play 3-6 tracks of new release albums. Jesus, the number of D90 cassette tapes one would go through in a month.

Always find it a bit depressing that he's been wasted for so long on AW, filling-in and pandering to those old dip-shits. His knowledge and radio voice completely wasted for that audience.

Yeah, he's been running the same old person-friendly themes/topics over and over for several years. Is he still on over Summer with Mike Brady? He was better utilised there, because Mike obviously knows more about old rock.

Have you ever seen his interview with Ozzy Osbourne? I dunno where the rest of it is. Even though Ozzy seems vague, he's much better than he is now.

Memory tells me the Casey Kasem Top 40 used to run before Billy's show, starting at 6pm - Billy would start at 9pm through to Midnight.

You could pretty much re-run those Sunday nights now and get better ratings than most.

Yeah nah, here's a typical comment FM music stations: ah.... the old days of waiting for hours and hours for a song to come on the radio so you could tape it on a shitty tape recorder, then be pissed off because the DJ talked over the intro.

or, the alternative was buying the longest tape available (50 min per side, or 60, but they tended to be not as good), taping hours of a station, then spending ages going through the tape, hoping the song was on there.

I was not so much a music person to tape too much but I do know I have some cassettes from those times still around. EON FM I am sure is in some of them and why I readily remember the name of that station even though I never actually followed or understood how FM band radio all started out at time. FM radio was the only band worth trying to record stuff from. I probably got segments of top 40 recorded here and there from Sunday nights. The name Casey Kasem rings a bell in that regard from USA.

oh, so that is what the poster from yesterday meant by changeover. I thought he was talking about FM radio stations starting up from AM radio but he actually just meant many years later one station changing it's dial position.

Parkin is fantastic. Much better than any of Hutchy's little bland band of merry men, Cam Luke, Heverin, Azoor etc.

I believe Parkin is also one of Hutchy's Crocmedia people. It baffles me why he is not used more as an on-air host. He is much better than those you mentioned.
