You are counting Fitzroy v University twice, that takes it down to 2040

But if you count the Bears as defunct this takes it back up to 2245.

So there.
 
Fitzroy 1928 games, University 126 games = 2054 games
This counts each Fitz. v Uni. game twice, once for each team.
As there were 14 such games this equates to 2040 games involving defunct teams.

ummm..... that's a deliberate mistake to see if you're paying attention! no, really!

well spotted.

and yes, i do consider the Bears and Lions as the same team. just as University didn't disappear officially, they 'merged ' with Melbourne in 1914 or whenever it was.
