Player Watch #12 Angus Sheldrick

I thereby declare Gus to be easily THE most interesting player on the Sydney Swans list*.

* Except for Logan, who has racked up 122 pages. But he's on the Bigfooty inactive list for now, so doesn't count. Chad, Heeney and Papley fall outside the bounds of this study.

JJ and Harry are clearly in need of some controversy to boost their poster appeal.
Just get someone into the Harry thread to declare him overrated, surplus to requirements next year or use him in the same sentence as one of our half backs, as if they are interchangeable players, and I'll do the rest.

My concern with Cleary is that people keep saying, "He'll get his time" in the midfield. But will he? I'm not really sure what's going to change in regards to the midfield next year. No one in there is even 30.
I'm hopeful that Cox will look for a structure that improves our chances of getting first hands on the ball. That was Cleary's strong suit - grab it and dish it out. You and I have both expressed a desire to see Warner in particular more on the outside, certainly at CBAs. He and Heeney can add a lot of value spending time forward, like Mills can in defence.
I'd like to see a midfield "core" of Sheldrick, Cleary and Rowbottom (2 at any one time) plus one of the exit players like Heeney, Warner and others on occasion. I'm not crazy about putting JJ in the middle while both Sheldrick or Rowbottom are there. Makes it too one-dimensional. Most of the best midfields aren't tagging at CBAs. Around the ground OK.
Just my feelings.

Cunners is so nonchalant that everyone just knows what he is gonna produce

This bloke can seriously play exactly what we need
He's only played a handful of games only gunna get better and he's a way better kick that what he gets credit for on here ..
Not a player in the game who don't hack it under pressure at times
He's a jett and will be for a long time

Last few weeks especially he's been able to add more of an outside game string to his bow. Providing as an option in the corridor more for marks, bit more composure on his kicking. Had some great strips in the guts as well to win the ball back. Still needs to improve but like how he's using more of his right foot in the right situations.

He is becoming Luke Parker II.

And that’s good. Easy to forget how good Luke Parker was for our club.

He clearly is building confidence from his extended period in the team. He is hit and miss with his disposals, but we don't need him to be a superstar - get to a Kirk/Bolton sort of level of competent disposals more often than not, he will be exactly the type of midfielder we really need. I do wonder where it wil leave Rowy however - given Sheldrick is clearly superior in hunting the ball and getting enough of it.

He was real good today. Keep building his tank. Keep working on his kicking. See now why he was given number 12.
TBH I knew nothing about him until we drafted him. When I read up on him I discovered that he was unfashionable but he kept rising to the next level every time he got a chance and had battled his way into the WA U18 side, then obliterated JHF in their match. He's backed himself at every opportunity.
So I became happy. I'm just very pleased that this pattern seems to be repeating itself.
Character.

He has been building slowly but steadily and I think today was his breakout in a sense albeit just another game where he has improved slightly on his recent form. I can now see the player we so desperately need in him. He just looked liked a seasoned, strong, reliable mid today.

At the time I remember thinking we just need a shuey/neale type. Even if it's to a lesser extent in terms of recognition, he's that profile.
