#12 Dom Tyson - traded to North for Preuss and a 4th

I have been reluctant to jump on the hate train for Dom but his kicking at times was very shoddy on Saturday. As much the decisions as the actual execution. A few dinky, floaty kicks to about 45m out could've gone to the top of the square instead where we could've put more pressure on when the ball came down. Instead it bounced down to a swarm of Pies and went down the other end for a shot. He wasn't alone in this regard, the team played dismally on Saturday across the board, but I am seeing what others are saying about his unreliability by foot.

would be the best player ever if he didn't have to kick. let's put him on the table and see if we can get something half decent for him. there are certain players that played on Saturday that I'll never forgive for that performance. Dom is one, I don't want to have to look at that hair coupled with a Melbourne jumper for another eight years or so
Frequently misses handballs too. Cut bait while he has trade value likely above his playing value.

I can't believe there is so much difference in what us supporters see with this guy. His turnovers kill us. Really not fussed either way if we keep him or not. But if we do land someone like a Whitfield, then Tyson is back to Casey. I'd be shopping him around to see if a team will offer overs. Which would be a late first rounder. But I'd only trade him if we bring in another mid with good kicking skills. No point replacing him with another bloke who can't kick..

Dom is a classic ecample of people seeing what they want to see - he's a good player and not far off being one of the better mids around if he tidies his kicking up

But his kicking has gotten worse at AFL level mate. Matt Jones would have been one of the better outside midfielders if he could kick better and make better decisions

But doms not an outside mid? He's a very good inside mid with potential to be one of the best in the comp.

Potential? He's 24 and been in the system 6 years. Hasnt improved since his 14' season.

Sydney has 3 clearance beasts in Kennedy Parker and Hannebury and then other people who play roles in positions and are good one on one.
We have 12 clearance players.
We don't need as many as we do especially with the dominance Trac Oliver and Viney should have.

Yeah potential - as I said he's already very good (justifies his spot in the side easily already), the potential comment was in regards to being one of the best in the comp. Players continue to improve well into their late 20s mate.

We do not have 12 players as good inside as Kennedy and Parker.

And I think if you wanted trac to play predominantly inside mid, you're wasting his talents. We've got guys like Dom Tyson who can do it just as well.

Not sure it has - his ability to find time and space with the ball is rare and his kicking is only a touch off, probably just needs to go for less risk

Always looks a lot better when the team is finding space and working harder too. Conversely, like on the weekend, pretty much everyone's kicking looks poor when the team isn't working hard and finding space!

Exactly. Its all about team balance. You simply can't have all your mids as clearance players. Viney, Oliver, Petracca, Tyson and Jones are clearance beasts. We can't have all 5 of these guys in the same 22. They have tried playing Tyson as an outside player since Oliver has started playing more gametime and since Trac is playing more in the middle. So Tyson gets squeezed out of our stoppages and plays as an outside mid for the majority of the game. His skills simply aren't good enough to be an outside mid. He's now borderline best 22 because of this reason. As soon as we get one or two outside mids who can hit targets, Dom won't get a game. So he'd be on the trade table IMO to see if a club might offer overs.

I agree. Trac, Oliver, Viney (and Brayshaw) should be enough, with Lewis, Jones, ANB, Hannan etc to lend support. Dom is simply surplus to requirements. We just look so s**t when Viney isn't there. That's when Dom ought to step up as an inside specialist but he is nowhere near Viney or Oliver's level and Trac always looks strong on the few occasions he is at a centre bounce. In hindsight I think it's Dom's spot that Brayshaw should have had all along and we shouldn't have ****ed Gussy around playing him as a half forward etc. Gussy will be a much better player at 24 than Dom is now. That's how a team improves, getting the most talented players playing the important roles.

I know I went a bit OTT a while back and suggested trading Frost, Watts and Tyson, and I still think that is too much to trade out in one off season, but I wouldn't lose sleep trading any two of those three out now.

Of course we can and we should. Petracca is wasted on the inside, he's got other super valuable traits (outside mid; forward in Martin/Gray mould). Jones should be less inside than he was previously. Our key inside players are and should continue to be Viney, Oliver, Tyson.

Did you watch the Collingwood game? Trac and Oliver were the only players who looked like winning the inside ball. Another pre season and Trac will be good to go for even more midfield time. This forces Dom out of the middle to the wings or flanks and he simply doesn't have the skills to deliver on the outside. I know there are a lot of people here who run to his defence and claim he's one of our best players, but the truth is, he simply isn't anymore. Needs to add something else to his game next season or he's gone IMO.

ANB is wasted on the inside, Trac almost single handedly got us back into the game on the inside

Thought he was better last night than he had a right to be coming off a two week turn around for a fracture. He’s been playing a very safe role as an outside mid since coming back into the side but did a good job of generating a lot of rebound play, putting the ball inside 50, and being that big body around the ball that released some of our other mids to be more offensive. Good pressure rating too

I thought he did well finding the ball and putting on pressure but his disposal was sloppy a few times that cost us. Still think he keeps his spot though.

Literally everyone had sloppy disposal at times. His disposal was better than Brayshaw for most of the day, and AVB, Harmes, and Viney had more turnovers than Tyson too

Annoyed me when he did the KB handball around the boundary to get around someone which was brilliant and then kicked it straight to a cats player.

But Harmes and Gus both turned over a couple, Trac was poor, AVB cost us a goal with a shocking handball etc.

That's finals!

That AVB handball was a Draggable offence. So bad
