Josh P Kennedy

Josh Kennedy led the Sydney Swans to back-to-back finals campaigns as the club’s sole skipper in 2017 and 2018, and has since led the team as a co-captain alongside Luke Parker and Dane Rampe. The top-class midfielder has compiled a glowing list of individual achievements since leaving Hawthorn for Sydney ahead of season 2010, collecting a 2012 premiership medal, three All Australian blazers and three Club Champion awards. Kennedy is instrumental to the Swans’ host of young midfielders learning their craft at the top level, including Oliver Florent, James Bell, James Rowbottom and Dylan Stephens. Draft history: 2006 AFL Draft 3rd round father-son selection (Hawthorn) No. 40 overall; 2009 AFL Draft traded by Hawthorn for No. 39 (Sam Grimley). Previous AFL club: (Hawthorn 2008-09: 13 games, 1 goal).

JPK has staked out a claim as the greatest Swan of the Sydney era, imo. Above Goodes, Kelly & Lockett.

Maybe not the single-game or even single-season impact of any of those three. But it's been 7 seasons of supreme, high-level consistency.

Has he ever actually played a bad game?

Massive call...two Brownlows is very hard to top. JPK will probably play at this level for another 3-4 seasons though so maybe once he's hung up the boots he will have surpassed the great man. I'd also expect him to poll better in next years Brownlow given all the attention he has received on the back of his superhuman finals series.

Sorry, mate, posted the above in the wrong thread and moved it over here.

Two Brownlows is definitely hard to top. No disrespect at all meant to Goodes, and I definitely appreciate the argument that Goodes remains untouchable as the best Sydney Swan. His best 3-4 seasons still stand above the best that Kennedy has produced, imo.

But Kennedy's consistency is absurd, and I think it counts for a lot.

And the lack of respect he gets from the umpires in the Brownlow breaks my heart. He should finish with 10.

Ratten in 99 geez

Ratten in 99 geez

Averaged 26 disposals and 10 clearances in that era. Only 4 Brownlow votes.

And he probably missed out on All-Australian to Deledio as well.

Well this is why we gave up Tom so that we can reward this bloke.
Absolutely one of the top 5 players to represent the club because you are judged in finals & Josh hasn't failed once but in fact goes up a gear & gets better in finals.
Sign him Swans!

He did miss the AA

He got outpolled by Troy Luff in the brownlow

This isn't the contract speculation thread.

Far out! 'Rubs eyes'. Did I just read he owns 5 of the top 7 positions including the top three?

He is unique in the game imho. The Goodes comparison is valid.

It's no coincidence his 2 best years are our 2012 GF win & then our dominant minor premiership H&A season this year... If he's down, we're down (e.g. GWS). If he's up we generally win.... except if there's an agenda driven umpiring rort on the biggest day of the year that is. Even JPK couldn't fight his way through the utterly corrupt obviously planned biased disgusting umpiring in the GF... Says a lot about how bad the umpiring that day was really.

In Sydney he's top 4 and climbing.

Goodes, Lockett, Buddy and JPK.

Diesel would have to be close by.

I think he's surpassed Kelly. And that is no insult. If those umps ever realise how good he is and chuck a Brownlow his way he'd be on the fast track for Legend status.

If there was ever a game where he made everyone around him look like a bunch of junior footballers, that was it. Beast.

I still don't think he is recognised enough for his standing in the game over the last 7ish years. Should go down as one of the top few midfielders of this decade. Wouldn't look out of place in the HOF as well with his resume and comparing him to players already inducted. Still only 29 and his game style doesn't rely on speed, so hopefully we still have another 4 or 5 seasons to witness one of the best we've seen at the club.
