Now that 2012 is just about to draw to a close, I wanted to ask two questions.

1. Are you happy that Voss was given the two year extension that will see him through to end of season 2013?

2. Do you feel the club's internal review has led to changes that have improved or worsened our clubs performance on and off the field?

Just list why you feel these two events have been good or bad....

1. Yes, because when it comes to coaching tenures I favour patience over a high turnover. My philosophy is 'if in doubt stick with the current guy'.

2. Hard to tell as we don't have a comparison on how we would have went without the review. But I would hazard a guess that in terms of the goals set out in the review we are on schedule.

Good idea for a thread.

1. Yes I am because it would have been pointless to make all these changes in the review and make the effort and spend the money to support Voss and after all that sack him after one year. If you want to support a coach, you can't do that with a one year extension.

2. I feel the review has had a positive impact on the club, in terms of improved support for coach and players and also I feel like the club has a plan for the future more so then previously where it felt like we were drifting along with no concrete goals in mind.

Got to agree with you here Grim, I think some lists just aren't ready to take the next step and a few coaches get destroyed because of it. Matty Primus is a prime example of this, maybe he'd be a good coach with a good list, but he'll never get the opportunity to prove that. I think our list over the past few years has been reasonably poor but has grown considerably in the past 18 months. This is reflected in our results.

High turnover of coaches doesn't help anyone, good luck trying to build a gameplan long term with recruiting when the orders are changed every 2 years.

However, I feel in the case of a guy like Brett Ratten, while hard done by injuries, he probably wasn't going to take the next step with that list so it was probably the right time to change.

Voss has improved out of sight this year as a coach, whether that has to do with the implementation of a 'winning culture' again, the addition of good staff around him (Murray Davis, Mark Harvey) or the natural progression of the players ability to execute his gameplan, remains to be seen.

1. Yes. Tactics and structures are one thing, having the playing group behind you as coach is just as important. Voss has this in spades.

2. Yes, the review has turned the club around, the guys at the top were found out and is probably why it wasn't done 2-3 years earlier when it was needed. Better late than never. Whilst its far from finished, I'm happy with the overall progress and direction so far.

Very happy with Vossy and the way we are slowly but surely building something good again. We have a long way to go and no doubt Vossy still has a lot to learn but there is no doubt the young cubs are playing for him. In 2012, we have won the games we were expected to win and picked up two "5 star" wins against the Crows and Eagles. It does not follow that 10 wins this year translates into 10+ wins next year but we are definitely on track. On the downside, we lost competitiveness against the next tier of teams and this is a worry. Well done Vossy for being your own man and making the tough and unpopular decisions that have had to be made (letting Power go, playing Big Rog up forward etc) and pushing on regardless.

1. i wasn't happy, but then i realised if we win today, he's doubled our wins and things are looking very promosing

2. It's quite hard to tell, but it's improved because well, we are winning more games, simple as that

Well, the club has been given another vote of confidence. This time from Matthew Lloyd.

Tick, tick, tick.

BRISBANE LIONS
Brisbane should beat the Bulldogs today to make it 10 wins for the year - six more than last season. The positive for Michael Voss is that there is no longer the over-reliance on Simon Black and Jonathan Brown. Players such as Jack Redden, Tom Rockliff, Daniel Rich and Pearce Hanley have all improved. Matthew Leuenberger is critical next season as the Lions were the worst team this season around the clearances. The Lions look in a far better place now than this time last year and would love to recruit Kurt Tippett to help them close the gap on the top eight teams.
Best and fairest: Jack Redden

Well we have already doubled our wins...Unless you don't factor in our bitches, Gold Coast suns ;)

1. Yes because Vossy is a great coach with a developing list and this season we have seen a glimpse of Vossy's grand plan that will eventually lead to another 3 peat making Vossy the best player and coach in the history of the game and cementing his place as better then Hird and Buckley if it wasn't cemented before:p

2. I will get back to you.

Yes i'm happy with the extension and we have shown improvements in a number of area's on and off the field so the review seems to have helped, hasn't hurt anyway. Trade time makes me nervous though.
