I don't think anyone disagrees that he's a good defensive inside mid. It's his body that's the biggest issue.

Did you miss the thread for demons game where people were screaming about him being selected as he was done and we need to picking youth over him.

Plenty don’t rate him.

He had 19 disposals (only 6 contested) at 47%, the worst of any midfield on the ground except for Sidebottom who had 15 clearances and 22 contested possesions.

He had only two tackles for the entire game, playing as a defensive mid role, in wet weather football. Menzie who came on as sub equaled him in tackles.

He had 6 clangers.

Indefensibly bad game and I have no idea why this board has such a boner for him.

His game last week was excellent. Directly set up at least three goals.

Seemed to not handle the higher intensity today. Caldwell in would have changed the game more significantly.

Not sure what board you’re reading but there’s way more that are disproportionately harsh on him than have boners for him.

I am not a fan but he is only there because Caldwell is not.
Of course your form is not great. How did Wright go last week 😛😛

He just can’t run.
He is very slow on the spread.
I don’t reckon he should play in front of tsatsas but that probably says something about where Elijah is at with his footy.

I mentioned a few weeks ago he looks like he is running in quicksand.
It says everything about where Tsatas is at.

The issue has always been the chronic knee issues. He is a smart and tough footy player but the body has let him down unfortunately and in games like yesterday he is a bit of a liability because of how slow he is.

I have more of a semi over him. But was terrible yesterday

Even though I don’t think he is the greatest footballer to grace the earth I’ve always felt he when fit has made our team the most balanced in the midfield I’ve seen since Jobe.

Edit: I meant the Jobe era which includes Heath Hocking. Another footballer that wouldn’t be on anyone’s top list but gee he made us a better balanced team.

had an off day vs. collingwood, but he's decidedly a good member of the team to have. he does exactly what he needs to. a "perfect" role player

He's a guy we've not yet managed to draft a clear replacement for.

Durham and Caldwell are stronger over the ball than a guy like Parish, and Hobbs has a natural physicality, but Setterfield has the awareness and positioning to defend at stoppages that the others don't. He also has a tendency for players he tackles to stay tackled.

I've said it before, but Tsatas could do worse than learning off Setterfield and trying to emulate his defensive work. Tsatas has good awareness around stoppages, if he can setup defensively and use his size (that he looks like he'll become) he could be a valuable cog in the midfield.

Setterfield is not far off being what we want tsatas to become.
For midfield balance he is ideal because we don’t need him to be fast or dynamic. We just need him to be defensive, stick tackles, accumulate and use the ball well. Even the accumulation isn’t as important given the defensive priority. I feel like you need a no frills sort of guy to make the rest shine.

If he had been our own #5 draft pick we would be seriously rating him

Baffled how Setterfield is constantly being slated as a delist option on here. Strong, big-bodied defensively-minded mid who consistently performs when he comes into the side and is willing to be a fringe-23 player. In no world should he be delisted.
if you read each page, its easy to see why.

defensive midfielders are often an easy target when we lose as the oppo midfield can be on top and he is not doing what is being asked.

Im with you, he often does what is asked, win, lose or otherwise. he is a solid enough 18 - 25 option on the list and a position we dont have much depth in

His issue has been that he’s mostly not been available. If fit, he’s quite useful albeit the wrong age demographic for us to be likely to win anything during his career as a midfielder.
