I usually don't get ahead of the draw, but looking at next weekend, if Carlton toss the Lions, Freo knock of the Poower and the Saints dork Melbourne--all likely results--we will be 12th, above the Poower on percentage and below the Lions on percentage.
That is, if we beat the Dons.

i dont have the draw in front of me but i seem to think that we could even be 10th on % if results go our way?

To get ahead of Melbourne and Port, they need to lose and we need to win. That would place us 1/2 a win ahead of Melbourne and ahead of Port on percentage.

To get ahead of Brisbane, we need them to lose to Carlton and us to defeat Essendon. We have a 5% deficit to make up, so we need to win big and they need to lose big. My bet is that Brisbane will still be ahead of us.

To get ahead of Essendon, we need to beat them well enough to reduce their percentage and increase our own until ours is better than theirs. Given that the percentage gap is 6%. Assuming that they score 60-70 points, then we'd need to win by 41 points to overtake them.

We've won four games this year, why are our fans so determined to take for granted the thought we'll beat another team...
We've won our last 4 consecutive home games. This week is another home game - and our opponent are only 1 win ahead of us. Nobody is saying that it WILL happen, but we do have some cause for optimism.

Yeah, we're better at home. That hardly makes this a lay up.

Getting ahead of ourselves has bit us in the ass multiple times this year. Time for a little restraint.

As a few people have already mentioned, we've maintained a relative stronghold at AAMI Stadium. We now face an Essendon side who is only one win behind us. At home, we are every chance to beat them.

We could finish as high as 10th at the end of the round (which would be incredible considering how bad we've been this year), but more than likely will be 12th - and only 2 games (plus percentage) behind the 8.

Ok, so thinking about the top 8 is probably getting a bit ahead of ourselves, but as Hawthorn have shown, all you need is a flicker of hope.

Crows will be tough to beat now, says Symes

Good to see the side are still talking themselves up and there's a bit of confidence within the group going forward.

Bit of a misleading headline that one. I'm not really sure how the editor came up with that. If you actually read the article, Symes never actually said we would be hard to beat but rather focussed on some of our goals coming out of the mid-season break.

Seriously, this is getting ridiculous.

Stronghold? The only win with even a moderate level of impressiveness was Freo, and that can be attributed to the Edwards factor. We still got our ass kicked in our first three home games.

As far as talk of us making the 8 goes... honestly, there is no chance we pull three games back on anyone, especially given the draw we have coming home.

Yeah fair enough. He does close with “We’ll be working hard over the next eight or nine weeks to really get that perception back among other AFL clubs that we’re going to be tough to play any day” but there is a difference between play and beat.

Yay 12th.

I agree with ST though, we are still ordinary. Just because we thrashed an insipid Melbourne side who shit their collective pants as soon as they step off the plane at Adelaide Airport does not mean we will suddenly start spanking teams.

To be honest if we do end up 12th, who gives a **** really? As long as we don't finish 16th I will be happy and finishing above Port will be a bonus but doesn't matter a hell of a lot when both teams are rubbish and will miss the 8.

Agree with the naysayers. Each time we've had a win we've all thought that "we're back" to a certain extent only for us to come plummeting back to reality the week after.

Our grip on playing good football is a fragile one and it only takes an injury, some inaccuracy, a Doughty backwards kick or a poor quarter for it to all come crashing down.

The biggest difference on Sunday was the clearances. We got beaten 30-50 by the Hawks and then smashed Melbourne by about the same margin. If we can break even against the Bombres I give us a good chance this week.

Doughty or Reilly vs Watson perhaps holds the key. Tippett with no Fletcher as third man up could kick a bag.
