Man, can't knock his enthusiasm. His first goal probably my favourite moment of the year so far!

Still seemed to be running hard and at least trying to impact the contest right till the end of the game which is an awesome sign for a first gamer IMO. Aside from the goals he did a few nice little things in tight, looks to have nice skills, smarts/awareness and is strong overhead. He actually reminds me most of Lambert, just with a bit more x-factor. Nothing at all wrong with that.

Buddy's is nearly the goal of the year.

He kicks them every week and is marked unfairly because of this.

I chuckled when he did that $10m deal in late 2013 thinking it was going to be a disaster. I was way wrong. He has been terrific for Sydney. Premiership or no premiership.

Great quote by Higgins

"I saw a few blokes (in the crowd) I knew which is always handy and they were getting around me so it gave me an extra leg."

Never underestimate the power of seeing mates in the crowd

Or the power of the extra leg

I'll say it again......we are going to LOVE Jack Higgins and oppo fans are going to HATE him.

So proud.
Our Hayden Ballantyne. Except marginally taller.

That's what I was thinking also but I despise him so much I could not bring myself to type his name. Another bloke who played for the Saints also comes to mind.

He has got that cheekyness about him which Richmond fans will adore and oppos loathe, brilliant pick up by the Tiges.

Another cult hero about to make his mark.

Thought he wasn't sure where to run yesterday at times. Just working out structures and probably not wanting to run into ream mates spaces. Normal stuff. Once he works that out will feel a lot freer. Looks to great instincts.

‘Biggest strut going down Punt Rd’: Richmond’s Jack Higgins relishes debut
WHEN Jack Higgins stepped out onto the MCG on Sunday afternoon, it was the end product of throwing his entire life into football.
The Victorian teenager quit school a year early to spent 2017 focusing entirely on his football.

It paid off, with Higgins enjoying a blockbuster final year of Under-18s before the Tigers drafted him with their first round selection.

Higgins won the TAC Cup’s Morrish Medal, was named Vic Metro’s MVP, earned All-Australian selection and was rated by Champion Data as the No. 1 player in last year’s draft pool.
It took until Round 3 for the teenager to break into Richmond’s team.

But when he got his chance, you could be certain he would be determined to make it count.

“It has been his focus for the past couple of years. He has put everything on hold to get to this day (ie quit school),” Fox Footy’s David King said of Higgins pre-game.

“Damien Hardwick just wants to see if he can tackle at this level.

“Dustin Martin had a similar program. Let’s see if it works for Jack.”

“It was sort of a thing in the moment, I just got my boot on it and luckily enough it went in,” Higgins said.

“I hit it so sweet, so it was unreal.”

And for the record, his second celebration was almost as high-powered as the first.

Higgins ended his night with two goals, 12 possessions, a plethora of new fans and a sizeable Gatorade shower.

The youngster was in raptures post-game, describing his first time on the AFL stage as an “unreal” experience.

“It was unreal. Like when I was walking out there, I’ve always dreamt of that as a kid and to finally happen and to play for Richmond which is such a great club, it was unreal,” he said.

“All the boys supported me heaps, couldn’t have done it without them.”

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick flagged a move into the midfield for Higgins in the long-term, but said the club was “excited” by the youngster.

“He’s that sort of player, he’s going to be a long-termer for us, no doubt about that,” Hardwick said post-game.

“He’s still learning the way we play but he looks an AFL player with his decision making and his ability to create contests — remember he’s 18 years of age so all those guys take time but we’re excited with what he has to offer.”

Post-match, Higgins revealed Hardwick had made him sweat before revealing he would make his debut this week.

“I was driving away, it was about 5.30. I was driving away and then one of the ... ladies said ‘Dimma wants to see you’ and I sort of had a bit of an idea and I drove back all the way to the club, was stuck in traffic for about 45 minutes, an hour just blasting the tunes,” Higgins said.

“And then got to the club and Dimma’s like ‘can’t really see you getting a spot this week’ and then he sort of screwed me around and then he’s like ‘nah mate, you’re playing this week.’

“And I was over the moon, (I) had the biggest strut going down Punt Road.”

And after Sunday afternoon, Higgins might just have had the biggest smile on Punt Road too.
“Dustin kicked it in ... and then I heard it was touched,” a Gatorade-soaked Higgins told reporters after the game.

“No-one else heard it was touched, and everyone stopped still and I snapped it around my body and then the boys got around me ... I’ll never forget it.”

On SEN Radio, Kevin Bartlett was teased for Higgins’ similarity to his own exuberant celebrations, with the Richmond great shrugging it off — emphasising it was important for players to “enjoy” the moment.

Higgins certainly did that.

Teammate Shane Edwards said Higgins’ celebration reflected the “turbo” forward’s high-energy character.

“He’s pretty full-on, he came in hot to the club,” Edwards told foxfooty.com.au.

“He’s such a turbo, he was so nervous before the game and he brings so much energy.

“I’ve never seen a player bring so much energy before and I guess when he kicked his goal, his celebration really showed his character.

“He loves it — he loves the game, so we love having him.”

But if Higgins’ first goal was memorable, his second was spectacular.

When the Hawthorn defence failed to punch a ball over the goal line in the third term, Jason Castagna’s fist dropped the ball into Higgins’ path, with the 18-year-old volleying home in dramatic style.

It was the type of finish a first-gamer had no right to pull off, with Bartlett noting the young gun was clearly an ‘innate goalkicker’.
While Higgins didn’t get a touch in his first quarter of AFL football, he made an early mark, with a diving smother forcing a Hawthorn rushed behind.

His first big involvement was a brilliant sign of his intent to come.

“It was absolutely unreal, when I walked out there for the first time, I was getting shakes and stuff like that and I missed a few set shots when I was warming up but with the game, when you get your first touch, you’re all good,” Higgins said.

In the second quarter, with the nerves shaken off, Higgins ensured he stamped himself on the game.

Dustin Martin scythed a scintillating kick towards the goal square, with Higgins claiming the mark — then quickly playing on and snapping the goal.

His celebration, in which he took off on somewhat of a lap of honour through the forward pocket, arms outstretched and jumping on his teammates, seemed a combination of youthful exuberance, relief and pure elation.

Higgins later revealed it was a FIFA celebration he’d pulled off while playing the game with friends during the week — and admitted his quick call to play-on was because he’d heard Martin’s kick had been touched off the boot.

Why do people keep saying oppo supporters will hate him or comparing Jim to Ballantyne?

I’ve never heard of him being a pest or niggling other players, did he do that as a junior?

Every news report has been about how excited he is to play footy and how happy he was to be named.
