Very good last night again. Not winning huge amounts of the ball but he's settled nicely into a new role down back and is playing that role well.

Has been a lot of talk about where his best position is but I'm not fussed. Happy to see him make a name for himself in the backline and if he transitions into the midfield over the next few years then great. And if he doesn't that's fine also.

Skill, discipline, strength and a fair bit of campaigner. There's a lot to like about his game.

How far back does this love affair with our number 13's go?
The Shark?

I was pretty young 7 or 8 but I vaguely remember Maylin, played with a lot of heart. I had 13 on my back as a junior so that’s where it started.. Been a lot of good players looking through that list been a solid number for our Blues 😊

I like the story of Maylin debut. Apparently just got picked up by one staff member from airport and driven to Victoria Park and had not even meet the other players or coach yet. So moments before the games starts he has to ask coach, where am I playing in the side. ha ha.

Edit: Trying to track down where I maybe heard this

Don't move him from a back pocket.

Having him in a back pocket allows a player like Saad do do what he does best.

Go out and draft onballers if we need them. Let players good at a position just master their craft there.
I look at it the other way myself. Recruit a gun back pocket to enable Stock to go in the middle, he has so much more to give by going in there and a BP will be cheaper to get than a gun mid

Thought that may very well have been the reason in recruiting Boyd in the MSD...

A midfield of Cripps, Walsh, Dow and dare I say, Kennedy, is starting to take shape. Add Stocker to that and it might be set and make recruiting the likes of Cerra redundant

Then we have the likes of Carroll and Ramsay in the twos who appear to be able to get plenty of it. Kemp might end up a mid after starting down back, he’s shown in 2 games he can get plenty of it as well

Keep Luke Power on as the midfield coach and let the development continue...

I think that may be a tall tale. According to the Blueseum he arrived at Carlton in the summer of 79 before playing his first game in 1980.

Did not sound like it going off the last part of audio file.
In the audio he says Wes Loft rang him in Adelaide and told him he had to get there a week earlier than planned and play in seniors as Barry Armstrong got injured. Sounds legit. Reckons he had to ask Shane O'Sullivan in dressing room where he playing as silly coach Percy Jones had not told him yet. That sounds like the coach he was of that time. I think he was meant to move from Adelaide to Melbourne the next week and play in reserves so if he had of been over for a practice game in summer it probably meant in the reserve group as he said he had never meet guys like Doull and Sellers before he arrived at Victoria Park with Wes Lofts. Also read somewhere else he also played for Saints in practice game that summer but they never got back to him..

Just on stocker being a ‘ different cat ‘ I think growing up in Beijing at an early age and living in a completely different mind blowing culture and experiencing all things China would be
profound. It did for me as I lived there as an adult same time as him. A very unique experience. Absolutely love him to bits . Can’t wait to see him against the cats. Hard , tough , composed and willing ..

Yeah, hearing him speak I don't think he's a 'lads lad' of bogan beer guzzling and utes if you know what I mean. Seems very intelligent and eloquent.

Also seems to have a shitload of mongrel.

We had guys like that in the Army, never quite fit in socially but once they proved themselves as good operators who you could trust to get the job done, they had your undying respect.

The former can leave you a little outside of the clique, but the latter gets you right back in there quicker than anything else you can do.

I get strong vibes of good old fashioned 80's type Carlton footballers when I watch him.

You’ll take your 10,000th like and like it too.
