Stocker’s three-vote performances included:
  • 19 disposals, nine tackles and five clearances in a 45-point win against the Northern Knights at SkyBus Stadium in Round 1;
  • 30 disposals, 10 clearances and six inside-50s in a 22-point win against the Eastern Ranges in Round 9;
  • 20 disposals, seven tackles, six clearances and one goal in a three-point win against the Oakleigh Chargers at Warrawee Park in Round 10; and
  • 35 disposals, 12 inside-50s, nine clearances and one goal in an eight-point win against the Bendigo Pioneers in Round 13.
Stocker joins the likes of Jack Higgins (2017 – Oakleigh Chargers), Hugh McCluggage (2016 – GWV Rebels) and Clayton Oliver (2015 – Murray Bushrangers) as recent winners of the Morrish Medal.

That's good company

Putting aside the trade, which I have commented on elsewhere, just rapt we have another highly rated kid through the door.

Looking forward to seeing what Liam can produce in 2019 and beyond, looks a terrific prospect.

Welcome to Carlton :thumbsu:
x 2

After sitting here for over an hour trying to figure put who he reminds me of, I've finally got it...
He reminds a lot of breust, the way he runs and moves, does anyone see that resemblance or am I just sick?

I like Stocker. Not sure I like the trade.

SOS has gone all in. Very ballsy.

Could prove costly. Or could be a masterstroke. Only time will tell.

Gotta give SOS the benefit of the doubt, but this trade makes me nervous.

Thought we weren’t doing anything more until the 15th round tomorrow. Watched a bit of paint dry off and come back to a surprise pick.

Nice. Good luck Liam, welcome to the best club in the land.

From a Sandy coach

(Pretty sure he's on bigfooty so hope he's not mad for sharing private message)

When I asked if we've just acquired Selwood 2.0

Bigger and stronger than J. Selwood at the same age. I’m a bit biased but don’t be surprised if he tracks ok alongside Walsh re: development and output. Suffice to say it’s a bigger body in your midfield and he will stay there for a long time. If he hadn’t broken his jaw, and played u18 Champs instead, he would’ve gone between 8 - 12, so the bid was a good call IMO.

Absolutely ****ing brilliant move from SOS, seriously brilliant.

So much upside to this move it’s not funny.

1) obviously we get another quality young midfielder alongside Walsh in this years first round selections.

2) we back ourselves in to win more games next year and finish higher up the ladder (as we should with the returning injured players and new trades we have brought in) so this trade looks to be heavily in our favour, but we’ll need to wait and see..

3) and most importantly, this single trade gives us the flexibility to trade in a gun established player next year without other clubs playing hardball with us by thinking they can benefit from our first round picks because they might be high.

Not only do we pick up and extra quality mid this year out of nowhere, but Now we can offer other clubs next year 2 first round picks for their established gun to satisfy what seems to be the latest market price and not have to worry that we are paying overs because our picks are too high end.

So I’ll say it again, ****ing brilliant by SOS, brilliant!!!!

I really couldn't care what happens next year re draft picks... at absolute worst, we downgraded 17 picks to pick up a player we really wanted.

I honestly love his highlights and the way he plays. His attitude is also great. I watched highlights of most of the top dozen prospects and his are more impressive than most. For example, his highlights look comfortably better than say Rozee, Butters, Caldwell, Jones... didn't watch highlights of others and academy players

I am feeling the same excitement I felt when we picked up Cripps and then watched his highlights and thought... WTF this guy is a gun. Feel similar about Stocker

Serves me right for thinking Walsh was a no brainer and not worth watching the first round.

SOS must not rate the top end talent next year and think its pretty even plus backing us to move up the ladder and not rate Adelaide.

Well we certainly have two teams to root for now - Carlton and whoever plays Adelaide.

Know nothing of this kid. My first go to is Knightmare who has this in his draft almanac -

17. Liam Stocker (VIC)
Best position: Inside midfield
Height, weight: 183cm, 83kg
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Projected draft range: 10-30
Similar to: David Armitage
Rationale: Taking out the Morrish Medal for the TAC Cup's best player, Stocker has played a consistent brand of football for Sandringham and has been one of the stoppage stars of the TAC Cup. Drops as others rise.
October Ranking: 13
Strengths:
Stoppage work
Contested ball-winning
Reacts quickest to 50/50 balls
Tackling
Distribution by hand in heavy traffic
Strength to shrug tackles
Endurance
Work rate
Agility
Acceleration over the first 10m
Clean skills
Kicking to targets inside 50m
Weaknesses:
No clear second position
Outside accumulation
Contested marking
