Some blokes do it because they're too dumb to feel fear, some because they don't pick up on the danger of the moment until later. I knew a young bloke, who didn't possess an ounce of awareness of his own danger. Was probably the best young opener/bat I'd seen in a long time, because you could sledge him and he wouldn't even notice the words spoken even if you got right in his face. Water off a duck's back.Does come across as the type where nothing seems to overawe/phase them, I guess it comes down to a flight or fright response.
In Viney's - and hopefully Liam's - case, I think it's more relishing the contact, wanting it and needing to know that it's going to happen. Tom Mitchel and Oliver are not like that, they're all about the ball, but Mitch Robinson, Viney, Hodge, Parker, they need the contact to play the ball. It's necessary to them, knowing that their opponent is flinching because they're in so hard and early, not a skerrick of hesitation in them.
Different, see. Like the difference between Border and Langer. One of them is impervious to sledging, the other bloke needs it to get them going.
