I suspect young Liam will soon be regretting his (refreshing) public honesty regarding his weaknesses, and sharing the Richmond interview story etc. He could transform himself into Ed Curnow from here, and yet those within this 'narrative'-driven AFL bubble will still forever harp on about it.

Blown massively out of proportion in my opinion, including (especially?) here.
Nah - an honest reflection on his skills. If you can't play properly with the media either banging on your weaknesses or singing your tune a la Charlie, then....

Simpson and Thomas have to be replaced pretty soon and Garlett isn't a certainty as far as HBF capability goes - makes sense to get a talented youngster able to play that role - would cement himself a position for a decade if he goes about it the right way. All he has to do to be a starter in AFL for us - is be able to tackle and kick the ball longer than 35 meters to a target.

Hopefully that is what Pickett can do (when he gets back). I much prefer him as a run and carry offensive weapon. Playing as a small forward hasn't worked.

Good last paragraph. Give him a half or more against the pies. He’s young and will improve his base . He’s a pick that sos wanted so let us see .

Dont know if Pickett has the footy brain to be a good rebounding defender - I do like the look of him on a wing or HFF - NOT forward pocket though.

A lot of players play in positions early that's not their main position. Half back is a good position to learn how to play a game that's balanced between attack and defence. Half back at AFL level is a similar role to what a defensive wingman was many years ago. It might also be a position he can play and not be too stuffed to train hard mid week. He will play some midfield this year, certainly but developing players to be multipositional is really important and if he goes well it increases his chances of making the AFL team.

I would think he would play a fair bit of midfield next season and I would expect him to really come on then although for what he is I think his 3rd season will be when we see what he can really do. No doubt the club would love if he can nail down another position so he can rotate through there. I feel we will want to build a team which has plenty of successful rotations in it. We will want to be able to keep players fresh and run over the top of sides. Bigger picture here, player development is not just developing players to their strengths it's about improving their weaknesses and adding strings to their bow.

Wouldn't it be great if Stocker became a really good half back as well as a mid like Docherty is and to have both of them in the same side and able to rotate through the center and backline.

Wing forward imo . Beautiful balance , pickup and just needs to play15 games + .

SOS does the recruiting but Bolts needs to put team on the park in 2019 and be as competitive as possible. There is a hole in the backline already because of injuries so find someone bodies on the list who can fill that hole. Maybe this is stockers best chance of playing AFL in 2019

Needs to get ON the park first.

Kid has come back from a career ending foot injury a broken wrist and now has to get over a PCL - I figure this is the three setbacks he will get in his career - all done and when he gets back will go uninjured forever.:rainbow:

I like the way they are handling Stocker and it won't be long before he debut's but IMO he will become a pure midfielder. Has all the traits and will be a gun

Judging from his highlights package my guess is that he has considerable adjustments to make. Best way I can put it, he plays like a junior.

Great vision and the confidence / courage to take the more difficult and more damaging option. But. Some of the most impressive plays he makes in his highlights are going to get picked off at AFL level.

May adjust very quickly, or it may take a decent chunk of time reprogramming his instincts.

Walsh as well.

I think it's great that we now can develop players in the VFL with confidence. The connection is better and we have a good group of VFL players along with our improved list. To be able to put a player back to the VFL to work on things, develop, gain confidence before playing Seniors again is a major plus

We also don't need to rush players back from injury. Longer term injuries can come back via VFL

May be frustrating for some short term but in the longer term it will really benefit us

Don't agree. Looks like someone with great vision and the skills to back it up. Skills that will be special at AFL level. You don't try and curb that.

The ONLY issue he has at the moment is improving his endurance, getting an AFL body, and defensive skills and importantly he is. The rest he is a natural

Sorry, you have absolutely no reason to assume that "ONLY" other than just coz.

Until he is seen running around in senior company it is nothing more than a great big slice of unrestrained optimism.

Never said "just coz". I've seen him in match sims, intra clubs and last week in VFL. Looks good to me
