So when Hird had half his head caved in should he have been retired then? How's his CTE going? Isn't his football insight still respected?
How's Jordan Lewis' CTE going? We trusted Lewis with the external review and yet he's brain damaged according to some AFL shills.

Yeah CTE isn't real hey, they just need to toughen up!

Frawley, Tuck and almost certainly Selwood all noted soft players.

Your obvious lack of understanding about this topic is obvious.

This is such a millenial thing. You've now got an impressive medical term to give a simple and straightforward explanation to an extremely complex and insidious condition that causes suicidal ideation. How do you know anything about the background of those players to simply explain it as the result of head knocks? How many head knocks did Joel Selwood cop?
When in the history of humanity have hits to the head not been considered dangerous?

If the AFL were genuine about this issue they would mandate helmets
Because there is proven research that says they do not work as far as stopping the brain impacting the inside side of your head.

The fact on this issue is concussion effects everyone differently.

How can smoking cause cancer? I’ve had a smoke before and I’m absolutely fine!

The secret to avoiding CTE is to swallow a cup of concrete before your head is smashed into. One of the key failings of the modern generation is being too absorbed in their TikToks and guzzling oat milk by the gallon to understand this.

😍

Excellent commentary.
Okay, so if you had a brain scan and they found an injury on it that they could confirm will cause you neurological issues when you're older, would you regret being involved with footy and wish you played a non contact sport instead?

Unless you can ask Tuck or Frawley their thoughts I’m not sure we can know.

Certainly I imagine they’d be in favour of better management of head knocks to protect the long term wellbeing of players.

It’s a weird thing amongst a small cohort of supporters that they’re opposed to protecting players from long term brain injury because apparently ‘they just need to harden up’.

Not sure bringing up the Selwood name is the flex you think it is given the past few weeks...

Please don't tag Agronomus back into this thread as they're having a break.

If you want to talk about Nik Cox and his concussion his symptoms, you can post here. Any more chat about the validity of CTE/players being soft/millennials being soft can go elsewhere.

Thanks

Full media release from the club:

Monday, July 7

Nik Cox will miss the remainder of the 2025 AFL season after consultation with the league's Concussion Panel last month.

The panel provided a clear return-to-play pathway, with one key recommendation being for Cox to step away from football for the remainder of the year, one that both he and the Club have accepted.

Cox expressed his gratitude and determination following the panel findings.

“After meeting with an independent AFL medical panel regarding my concussion history, I’m pleased that I’ve been cleared to continue my playing career. While I'm disappointed that I won’t return to the field for the remainder of the 2025 season, this time away from the game will be used to focus fully on my health, recovery, and building the strongest possible foundation heading into preseason,” Cox said.

“I’m incredibly grateful to my club, teammates, medical staff, and everyone who has supported me through what’s been a challenging and uncertain period. I’ve learned a lot about myself over the past few months, and I’m more motivated than ever to get back to doing what I love.

“My focus now is on continuing to work closely with specialists and the club to make sure I’m in the best place physically and mentally to return to football.”

The Club’s priority remains on supporting Cox through this period.

“Nik has endured a really difficult period with his ongoing concussion symptoms, and we’re fully committed to helping him recover both physically and mentally,” Essendon’s GM – AFL Daniel McPherson said.

“After meeting with the panel in June, the recommendation for Nik to step away from footy for the remainder of this year was one that we accepted with the view to giving him the best chance of getting back to his best when he returns, both on and off-field.

“Nik will have our full support as we navigate with him the next steps in his recovery.”
