They do have an upper hand when the player is still under contract. Carlton with bryce gibbs and Geelong with Tim Kelly are examples from last trade period. If Essendon arent satisfied, they just play Fantasia til the end of his contract in 2021. Then after that if he still wants to go via free agency we take the compo pick.

That's two examples from a long list in the last few years - Watch more contracted players be traded this post-season.

Im not saying contracted players dont get traded. Im saying when the player is contracted the club they are contracted to has the upper hand in negotiations. Basically im saying if Essendon aren't satisfied with the deal they can just hold Fantasia to his contract.

Zaka on AFL Game Day, didn't sound confident Orazio would stay beyond this contract.
It'd be pretty disingenuous if he did sound confident. Pretty sure other players careers and contracts are their own affair.
That said if he would rather be back home then we are better off catering to what Orazio wants in order maximise the chances of us getting what we want.

Contracted until end of 2021 so if he wants out we can:
  • Trade him this year from a super high bargaining position
  • Trade him next year from a very high bargaining position
  • Lose him as a FA the next year and get whatever compensation the AFL give us
This all depends on if he wants out and how badly he wants out. The obvious preference is for him to want to stay.

Buy low sell high.
If he wants to go home you do your due diligence.
He would be rated as highly as Dylan Shiel- 2 first rounders with a second going back to them
Or you would ask about Ollie Wines who seems to have lost his mojo at the minute
If Port try and play a Ryder deal on the club than you either keep him or see the crows.
Eddie Betts is almost done.

Opened up with a sprint in the third (iirc) and appeared to be ok. Just not working hard enough is my diagnosis. No player should be exempt from being dropped and his last month has been poor.
There’s no way he’s operating at full sprint pace.
