Callum Mills

Callum Mills is one of the best young players in the AFL. The QBE Sydney Swans Academy graduate won the 2016 AFL Rising Star award and was selected in the AFL Players’ Association’s 22Under22 team in three of his four eligible years. Mills is a small defender with uncompromising courage who’s also capable of shifting through the midfield. The New South Welshman was elevated to Sydney’s leadership group during the 2018 pre-season at the age of just 21, and he’s now a member of a five-man leadership panel alongside co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Lance Franklin.

Not putting the mock on Callum but I think generally the winners fly ABOVE the radar. They are the ones the umps notice. I'm surprised Parker polls as well as he does.

I'm not, inside mid who kicks goals. The winner literally did that last year. It's why you look at Petracca, Oliver, Bont as really the 3 clear favourites, albeit I have forgotten a few for sure.

Sam Walsh would have been my tip if he wasn't out for a month. Polled massive last year in a woeful side.

Yer I was one of them that thought he was a better defender than mid

Wrong I was no doubt

Think many of us were.

I wanted him in the midfield, but never expected him to have this type of effect.

“Callum’s a no-frills, get-the-job-done type of person,” West Coast great-turned-Swans assistant coach Dean Cox told News Corp this week.
“As a coach, you couldn’t ask for a better player from all aspects, whether it’s attention to detail for his own game; his work ethic to improve; or the ability to hold himself and teammates to account.
“There’s a reason he’s a young captain of our footy club.”
...
“When you’re younger; you want to play as well as you possibly can and try to get a game and stuff like that,” Mills said.
“But the older you get; you want to be able to win football games. However the team needs me to play on a certain day is what I’m happy to do, because, at the end of the day, I want to win football games.
“I don’t want to be a good player in a bad side. You want to play in a successful team.”
