Out for 2-3 months with a back injury the poor kid. On the upside can spend time doing weights to put on some size.
Have liked the look of him so far.

Emerging Essendon defender Jordan Ridley is set for a lengthy stint on the sidelines because of a back injury.

The 18 year old experienced some discomfort during training last week and could spend up to 12 weeks out.

“Jordan Ridley had some back pain last week, obviously given his age we were pretty keen to find out what was going on,” High Performance Manager Justin Crow said.

“Unfortunately Jordan has a partial stress fracture in his back, which in one sense gives us a chance to let it heal because it hasn’t broken through, so we’re going to take that opportunity.

“He’s going to have six to eight weeks off running and then build back up into the season.

“It’s normally between two and four weeks [after the initial six to eight weeks] to build up to play.

“The good news for Jordan is he really only needs to avoid impact – which means running… so he’ll be able to do a lot of weights over the next couple of months.”

I'm no medical expert, but If an 18 year old has a back stress fracture, weights is the last thing he will be doing

- Just going by what his trainer said.

only positive is that it's partial however does more than likely indicate structural instability.

I doubt we will see him this year.

Back stress fractures don't have the stigma of acls but are equally as crippling. Once you've got it you tend to have it ongoing and it becomes a management thing.

Really crap news

Jordan Ridley is nearing a return to training as he enters the final stages in his recovery from a back injury.

The number 22 pick in last November’s National Draft hasn’t played since the Bombers JLT Community Series match against Gold Coast in February.

Ridley has added six kilograms to his frame throughout his rehabilitation and is expected to join in training shortly.

“We just want to maintain that [weight] now because he’s back running,” Crow said.

"We’re holding some hope Jordan will be back in for a warm-up and then starting to do some drills in the next fortnight so things are tracking really well for him and he’s starting to build-up some momentum.”

Slipped under the radar with his injury. Really hope the end game is for him to end up as a midfielder still.

Intrigued to see how he would go since he was mostly played in defence last year, at worst he will be a general in defence, very smooth operator and can be an intercept marking machine when he is in full tilt

That's pretty exciting that he was able to build so much muscle up in that time. I mean the club did say they were going to be able to get him focusing on weights whilst he wasn't able to run but for a player that skinny to build up like that is pretty impressive. That's kind of like the equivalent of going from Gleeson season 1 to Gleeson now. If we can get his running back to his normal levels over the next month then hopefully he can still get a good half a season or more of actual football in.

The injury whilst not desirable could actually end up being a blessing in disguise because no way he could have transformed his body like that if he was playing football each week.

I personally see him as a guy that could play a role similar to Goddard in the backline. Tallish type that can play on resting mids and such and can use the ball well to penetrate the zone. Who knows whether he can become a midfielder in time but I don't think he has to in order to succeed.
