Is that Liam Jones you are talking about?
you know it isn't although efforts around here lately leave me doubting the aptitude of most............

Let's see if the AFL allows for compensation picks to be allocated to clubs that have players terminated or retired as a result of the vaccine mandate.

I would say loosing a top 18 player who was in the top 25% paid players at their club is deserving of an end of first round compensation pick......at least.

Not happening. Should be treated as any other retirement. Otherwise there's so much room for clubs to game the system by having players come out and say "I'd have gone another year but Covid."

Must be so serious, whatever has made him decide all this. He worked so hard for his footy career with us , turned it around wonderfully , and now retiring over a vaccination. Interesting. Didn’t see this coming, hoped and thought he might have stuck around.

One of my favourite players, wish him all the best.

(The other day, my daughter had three operations. She’s all ok. But my point is this: I had no idea what was in any of the medication given to her, no idea how she’d react to all the sedatives and anaesthetics -I reacted terribly to mine - no idea what was used when the surgeons sealed her wounds, infact, I have no idea about the fancy schmancy writing on the back of panadol and what those ingredients mean. You should see the list of side effects on the oxycodone sheet she was given!

My daughter is 3. I fully trusted the specialists and nurses. I didn’t think twice, other than normal motherly panic snd worry during surgery.

We don’t jump up and down over medical treatment normally. I don’t understand why anti-vaxxers are doing it now when a needle isn’t just about you, but about helping everyone else.)

Anyone can be wrong. We're all wrong in a myriad of ways. All that can truly be asked is that we conduct ourselves in an appropriate manner.

He hasn't dragged it out. He's left prior to the draft. He's retired to circumvent the need to include his salary in the cap. He's conducted himself with the utmost of respect for us.

And he's served us well. Remember him for that at least, for there will be all manner of attacks on him for the rest of his days.

Do we leave a Blue out in the dark? Is that who we are?

He’s put something other than his footy at the centre of this, Im not sure it matters who he played for. He gets to do what he wants. Does he deserve to be vilified and run out of town? No, of course not. But the rest of us get to think what we want about his actions.

But it could have equally applied to Jones.

He doesn't seem to have thought about, or understand, anyone else but himself here.

For a start, he's taken a huge dump on an awful lot of Blues supporters.

Very true...and it's always possible he's not wrong. Crystal balls dont exist in reality. History is a litany of deadset certainty that turned out wrong in time. But regardless, its a choice and without those we are all sunk.

******* hell... fu** this world. Who would have thought national policy mismanagement would affect our football club (and somehow only our football) but here we are. ******* hell this is a huge blow.

Poor Jonesy
Work place safety issue unfortunately. Same too in much of the world so best we get used to it. Can't have someone coming into the club potentially spreading the virus, which can affect players and, by extension, their families, especially elderly grandparents. Opens a business up, or club in our case, for legal action. Plus it can affect the competition if a club can't play.

Roller coaster career.

Sad to see him go, but happy he’s retired early in the piece so we can work out how we go about covering him and also gives us the opportunity to re-strategise at the draft if need be.

Gave us plenty of joy the past 5 years and should be remembered as success, but this episode will undoubtedly taint his legacy.

Forgot immunocompromised captains.

At least we have the ability to trade back into the first or second round of this year's draft (even if we have to give up a future pick or picks)

Plus if required, we do have a few talls on our list we can throw back on the tall Gorilla forwards if we required (McGovern, or even Pittonet etc)

Brake out of glass scenario, recruit Harry's twin in 2 years time.

Timing is sucks, but let's be honest, it kind of was expected, and I don't think it's time for panic stations yet.

Richmond done pretty well after Rance did his knee and retired, good teams can cover the loss of key personnel and adapt. I am optimistic we will be able to cover the loss of Jones at some point next season and beyond.

If it were any other club, maybe.

I'll say this. I was told by a former Carlton player not to go hard on Liam a couple of days ago. I don't have specifics but was told if and when the entire story comes out the court of public opinion would well and truly turn in Liam's favor.

I had already decided before then against railing on him.

We all have decisions to make regarding the vaxx or otherwise. There may well have been much more to it than a stance on the vaccine. There's a whole lot of racing to conclusions without knowing the facts. Way too many assumptions being made.

Liam was a helluva player for us and deserves our respect and appreciation for what he brought to the club. As a collective fan base we death rode him harder than any player that I can remember ever doing. Then he and Josh Fraser turned him around and he gave us several years of the best combinaton KPD's we've had since Silvagni.

All the best Liam. Thanks for your years of service. Whether all of your story gets aired is on you and I hope the infestation of maggots in the industry let you, and yours, reach that decision.
