Big names out, Essendon looking great - BUT YOU DID IT!!

The last 2 weeks the Bombers have looked ominus, have looked like repeating last years amazing run!

But you broke their back! And for that we thank you! The pshychological gain for the other 14 clubs is amazing! Not like last year when it was pressure on a club each week to see who can be the first to do it. This year they now all know it can be done! It is a mountainous task!

I've got a lot of time for the Carlton posters on this board. I didn't hear a lot of spiteful crap after last week's game, which I think is as it should be. After Round One you could barely move for vitriolic Collingwood posts, and the arrogant crap being spouted by some of the Essendon guys in anticipation of tonight was reaching overload. I'm glad Carlton won, firstly because it sticks it up some of the Essendon goons (not all of you), and also because any gloating by Carlton will have been well earnt for once. Good on you, guys. Gloat away.

The reason supporters of other teams are happy Carlton won, is possisibly best summed up, not so much in the word arrogant, but SMUG.

As a North supporter, I have no hesitation in saying Carlton were the best side in 1995, but they were a very confident side.

On the other hand, Essendon supporters are loud, brash and SMUG.

My opinon is a generalisation of Essendon supporters - many supporters are just 'normal people'.

When North were dominating (and it will happen again) Essendon supporters had a go at Carey, North, their own team and then North supporters. (After Ess lost a game, one old Ess bat, tried to pick a fight with a very old North supporter!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not exaggerating, I was stunned.)

I can honestly say I really don't care about losing in the final. If we had a complete and uninjured team AND we had fairly well throughout the year, then yes, I would be very disappointed. That wasn't the case but we still managed to finish 4th.

There is a huge difference between arrogance and confidence.

I have NEVER gone to the footy to 'bag' an opposition team or its players; I go to the footy to barrack for MY team.

Finally Stealth Bomber agrees, Essendon have an image of arrogance. Read Dan25's post re the loss. Carlton didn't win the game - Essendon lost it. THAT'S ARROGANCE.

Yes I can see this as annoying, and I definitely disagree with Sheedy's claim regarding '96. However, I firmly believe (this is CONFIDENCE, NOT arrogance by the way) that Essendon would have beaten North in '99 if they didn't lose to Carlton. Why do you think Carlton were so happy with the win?!

Regarding the 'Bandwagon' comments made earlier by someone about Essendon.
Yes, we do have a few of them - but any team that is successful does. The hope is that they will stick around next time Essendon aren't doing so well.

Are you honestly trying to tell us that Richmond & Collingwood (especially) don't have a massive fanbase just waiting to jump on the bandwagon as soon as they start to string a few wins together? C'mon, be realistic....

I also find it very amusing that Collingwood supporters are so happy with Carltons win... Gee, for such a hated rival you lot must be confused.
Mind you the fact that Fatboy Eddie & Pigs Arse John have been in each others back pocket for YEARS now must surely rankle with the fans of these two proud clubs....
