Selection No.2 – Tim Taranto
Adrian Caruso says: "We like his versatility, we think early in his career he can make his way as a forward, but we know eventually he has all the attributes to be a big-bodied midfielder. His endurance is top end so we know he can run games out, but also love the fact that he's shown he can play forward."

A new year means new blood for the Giants, and Scully has backed Taranto to make his AFL debut in the early stages of the season. "I think Tim's composure for a young guy has really stood out," Scully said. "There's no doubt that he's certainly putting some pressure on to play early on. He's a great guy, works really hard, and he's done everything right so far."

GREATER Western Sydney's top draft pick Tim Taranto will make his debut against Adelaide in round one. Taranto, who was taken by the Giants with pick No.2 at last year's NAB AFL Draft, was impressive in the JLT Community Series and played all three games for the club against West Coast, Sydney and North Melbourne. The tough 19-year-old averaged 17 possessions and over five tackles per game across the pre-season competition, playing mainly as a permanent forward, but also showed plenty while spending time in the midfield, where his quick hands and poise in traffic stood out.

Nice write up on Tim
Tim Taranto had a world of expectation on his shoulders after being selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2016 AFL draft by the GWS Giants. In the absence of his father, Taranto’s grandfather, Paul, was instrumental in his development, ensuring he never missed a training, game or club function and that he kept a level head. The mild mannered boy from St. Kevins made his mark at his local club, the Mordialloc-Braeside Junior Football Club, early. Taranto was an instant ball magnet and caught the eye of Neil Jenkins, who coached the GWS youngster at junior level.“When we had a practice match at the end of Auskick, Tim would dominate to a point where we had to implement special rules to give the other kids a fair run at the ball,” Jenkins told Aflplayers.com.au.

Good to see him re-sign and he has really stepped up this year and he is a good size listed at 187 and 87 and not a flashy player but does the hard work
