when are we likely to see this bloke doing this stuff on the big stage agian???
probably 2016, he has had a taste and now knows he has to get bigger, stronger, faster, everything "er" and become the superstar we know he could be, or do you want to gift games to young players now?

Hi Guys,

I'm a Norwood and Hawthorn supporter but would still like to give my two bobs worth here with Trent. Always been a big wrap for him, and personally considererd him ahead of James Aish from the 2013 premiership.
For whatever reason he is not in favour and appears has rarely been in favour with the coach at North, at least for playing first team.
Where is he going to get better, gaining AFL experience or more and more VFL ?
I see his situation akin to Walker at Adelaide when Craig was at him repeatedly. The question at the time was - who are they more likely to win a premiership with - Craig or Walker ?
Is this the same question here ?

Part of the problem is that we can only play so many inside mids. Obviously swallow cunners and ziebell are infront of him at the moment. But that will be the case for a few years more at least.

The ultimate solution will probably playing ziebell forward more as many have been arguing for for awhile now.

Since he went back to the VFL he hasn't exactly demanded selection. I was really hoping he'd go back and dominate, forcing his way back into the side. Maybe it's just form or maybe he has a slight niggle, either way he needs to do more to come back in.

That'll happen. Give Dumont another preseason or two and he will really develop his strength, which with his excellent endurance will put him in the midfield and allow Jack and Cunners to spend time forward. JZ as a 60/40 mid/forward would be ideal. Even 50/50.

The other player who he could drive out is Basti. Both are strong runners, not overly quick and do their best work around the packs, but Basti operates off a wing more than not. Dumont has a better contested game and defensive game so if Basti don't extract the digit and become a consistent performer he may find himself on the outer in favour of Dumont.

I actually thought (not sure why) that Dumont was another poor runner.

Pretty strong in that area mate. Tested consistently well in beep tests as a junior (15+) and he was tearing up the running drills over the preseason. For a bloke of his size (keg on legs) he runs really well. Not fast but goes all day.

I think we easily have enough elderly statesman that in time both Dumont and Basti could be best 22.

1. Trent Dumont impressed through the middle, staking his claim for a senior recall with some impressive defensive work in particular.

“He was really strong with his tackles. He forced a number of secondary stoppages by just holding them up and getting a restart,” Development Manager Ben Dyer said.

“Since he’s come back to the VFL it’s been his best game from a tackle point-of-view.”

Dumont also found plenty of the ball going the other way.

“He was also really adept at hanging onto the ball, drawing a tackler and putting a player in space on the outside. Sometimes the game just looks a bit easier for guys like that … like they’ve got a fair bit of time.

“He would have liked a bit more on the outside and he finished with 2.2 so could have impacted the scoreboard a little bit better, but he was really solid.”
