So we're not playing Dumont because we have too many inside midfielders, so when exactly does he get his chance? Spitta, JZ or Cunners are not going anywhere in the next 5 years.

And while we're all loving Jacobs' work tagging, that also puts him in the stoppage group. JZ and Ben spending time forward helps create some opportunities I guess.

His best bet to getting more game time is Ziebell playing up forward for longer periods of the game.

Cunners and JZ are probably there because BJ is playing that stoppage role so not likely Dumont gets a gig unless we change the BJ role again, have an injury or drop Bastinac or Gibson. He ain't going to half back, the half forward line is chockers with Turner, Garner, Boomer and Higgins (who incidentally spent more time on ball and behind the ball this week than he has before for us) so it has to be the midfield rotation.

I noticed this. Maybe in preparation for a return of Wells to the forward line?
Maybe.

But I think its more so to get Jack and Cunners forward a bit more, accommodate Garner and Turner forward and BJ in the guts. We are getting pretty full in the middle and off half forward.

The key to him playing more as I see it is the long overdue crumbling of the triple towers.

When we first started using this set up, it had Hansen and Tarrant in it. Both are very mobile and good defensively.

Black then joined which effectively went away from this set up as Black is more a mobile third tall.

It now has Waite, Petrie and Brown which is too top heavy.

Fundamentally the set up has never really worked against any side of quality and is an absolute white elephant.

Our forward structure looks at its best with Petrie and Brown, Thomas, Turner, Garner, Boomer floating through and a resting Ziebell and Cunnington.

Ziebell and Cunnington always look dangerous and Ziebell should arguably spend 60 - 70 percent of the game up there. At very least as a high half forward.

This then creates a spot for another ball winning mid and Dumont is the boy most likely.

2. After his six appearances at AFL level, Trent Dumont had struggled to regain his best form in the VFL. That changed on Sunday as the midfielder excelled.

“It was by far the best game he’s played since he came back from his AFL games,” Dyer said.

“Firstly from a consistency point of view, across the four quarters he was a strong contributor.

“His work inside, both in winning the ball and putting players into space, was exceptional. Also his tackling, he was forcing secondary stoppages and holding them up frequently.”

The other part was leadership, adding onto the first two parts.

Like I said, I don't really get it at all but apparently the coaches (and I presume fellow players) do.
Aaah yes, the run and spread. The parts I said.

My subtext was that they don't outweigh the negatives any more.

3. Trent Dumont has found his feet again after lacking continuity from being North’s substitute player on occasions throughout the year.

“Last week was one of his better games but I thought today he went to another level,” Dyer said.

“That’s as well as I’ve seen him spread and hit up and win some ball on the outside. It’s the best balance of a game I think I’ve seen Froggy play which is really, really encouraging because he’s tracking in the right direction now.”
