Player Watch #15: Dylan Stephens

Love this trade and think it works well and makes sense for both teams.

Best case scenario is something clicks for Stephens and he ends up translating his VFL and junior form into AFL form.

Worst case scenario is we have a some good depth on the wing who will perform well at VFL level and contribute to a competitive side at that level which will enable the youngsters to develop.

I think he starts on a wing Round 1 2024 and it's his position to lose.

Who do you see as a player comparison for him as his best winger self?

Geez that’s a good deal.

A vanishing future pick and an early third rounder, for a mid second (trade ammo) and a more than likely best 22 player in a position of need.

Now we just need Clarko to work some magic and the boys to get around him and build his confidence on the field.

I highly doubt we hold onto that pick though, might get traded to Carlton for Fisher perhaps?

I think 25 is overs for Fisher - even with it drifting out somewhat. I also think Carlton want him off the books so the deal should look similar to the Stephens one

Watched his round 24 game v Dee's.

Played on Langdon the entire game except for 2 minutes when he was on the opposite wing. Only noticed he and Langdon not on the field once. This was at the same time during the first quarter. Both played 94% of game time. Stephens kept up with Langdon all day and seem to be running out the game well, though being the SCG their was a bit of jogging.

Probably be our best or second best endurance runner. Having him and Scott on both wings will help our run/transition.

Had a couple of nice side steps on the run which was encouraging to see.

Hopefully we can extract that next level of talent out of him. Going to be interesting to track his progress over the next few years.

He has all the athletic capabilities to be an A-Grader.

Will be interesting to see whether those two in combination really opens up the play for others. I thought Bailey's best work this year came as the year wore on and he made a lot of room for team mates to do their thing whilst chipping in with the odd neat kick. More genuine running power up the wings will hopefully be something of a force multiplier for us.

Used to teach Dylan before he moved to Adelaide. You've got yourself a great kid. Super athletic. I hope it works out for him better here than it did in Sydney.

I like it. Initially I thought using our F1 in the deal was way overs, but getting 25 back is a fair deal.

But using 25 for Fisher? WTF are you guys thinking?? This was a bloke who was dropped before finals and wasn't even an emergency, not in their best 26. He is not worth pick 25, unless the Blues send us something decent with him.
