We gave 5 years to polec.
4 years is nothing.
Given his age and talent 4 years is fine, its really all about salary because as it stands he's a fringe player with good attributes. Id imagine pay would need to carry a fair bit in performance, but the 4 years gives him stability and time to become a better player and then a larger contract.

Since 2016 the club has lost Mitchell, Aliir, Hewett, Newman, and Dawson.

And brought in guys like Lewis Taylor, Dan Menzel, Sam Gray, Jackson Thurlow, and Kaiden Brand, who have lasted 1 contract.

Of the 23 guys who played against Carlton, only Hickey had come from another club, and now he’s gone.

I think any reputation as particularly astute traders is a hangover from 15 years ago.

(Convincing the Saints to take Hannebery off their hands was pretty good, though)

I think Stephens will be a fairly useful player for you, if he can just somehow get that dog in him.
Thanks. Maybe I and others have conflated drafting and development with what you've described.

Stephens isn't Glen Archer hard and he's not Billy Hartung soft, he's somewhere in the middle.
I'm fine with this as we ain't getting him to be a hard man, we are trying to add run and carry, and decent ball users.

Clarko won premierships with Hill, Smith, Suckling, Young, Ellis, Bruest. None of these guys scream hardness, but they all bring different skills to the team.

Sydney are pretty switched on with the drafting/trading bit, they wouldn't be allowing him to explore other options if they thought he was worth holding on to. We're in that period of adding more genuine talent to the list, not other teams also-rans, something we seem to have made a habit of. I'd be fleeting in interest.
He's out of contract - they can't stop him.

Another Clarko left footer!!

When running up the right side of the field left footers are more likely to look inward rather than up the line. When running up the left side they tend to kick up the line.

It’s an offensive advantage that surprises the defense. Also, I’ve no idea if that’s true, I made it up.
I think the idea is right but you got the sides swapped around. It would be easier to kick across the body so have a left footer running up the left side to kick across to the centre.

I've never thought of Ryan Clarke as a tough player. He was soft as butter iirc.

I heard he never settled in Sydney so I wonder if any Swans posters have heard that. At the moment he is a Darcy Tucker type but who knows under Clarko. Has pace and is a leftie but needs more urgency in his game.

If he doesn't cost much he's worth a punt.

Yep, but **** the kid could run.. I remember him having 3 x 30 plus disposals in his first 3 games and every time he won the pill he would blaze the ball over the leading players ****ing head.. players like that ****ing shit me, players who are recruited on running abilities and aerobic capacity over actual football skills. Annoys me to ****ing tears.

The game never needed to be “sped” up. It needed to allow skills, strength and agility to fester. Not who can run more

He couldn't handball to save his life either.

In a past life I scouted. I was asked to scout Blake Acres. Here are some numbers in comparative 3rd seasons. If Stephens becomes Acres this is a win.
