Sure he could have had even less impact on the contest or given a free (core) thats obviously true and we all know it and have way way too many fresh examples from these players of ours.

given the spruiking I was hoping to see straight line effort that I myself had missed. Sadly for me that there doesnt count, so
the doubts remain. It doesn't matter. Someone mentioned Arch, I had to type something or blow chunks.

He literally ran in the most direct, straight way to the contest as possible, after busting his ass all the way there from forward or centre. Only thing he didn't do was cannon into the bloke, which in this day and age is a free kick against.

When the grail knights ran away from a french taunting and projectile bovines they might have ran fast in a straight line, but they didn't "straight line" any contest. I don't think that was a contest worth any attention in this team. I think in a good team it would be, maybe.

Some time ago a poster brought up Edwards and Unicorn regarding "reaching in" during contests with the hope that it would gradually disappear in one's game as it never had in the others. Given the job a bit of a deal breaker. I feel the same with a couple of our firsts, care factor somewhat depending on their role. Hope lives and opinions differ

He put enough pressure on and disrupted the play that it caused a turnover.

Because of the height difference, this was the smartest and pretty much only way to impact the contest.

It was brilliant.

Dawson got credit for the kick but without Disco the goal doesn’t happen.

I saw him live and he did shirk a contest but he’s been really bloody good ever since.
Genuinely didn’t notice him today. That can be a good thing in his role - he performed it and did the team thing.

Of all the sloppy seconds from other clubs we’ve ushered in in recent years, he’s one of the better ones.

Pretty much saw that whilst LDU frustrates at time as he seems like he holds back a gear we are impotent in the middle without him a lot of the time. Particularly an issue without Wardlaw's grunt in there as well. Parker closer to the end (and looked rusty) - Powell doesn't impact, Phillips has his hands full holding his spot and doing a close role on Kosi as well (a tough gig). We need some physical players in the middle that can also run and spread.

He had a good patch this year that shows he can do it.

Just needs to find that again.

As Clarko can’t think outside of the box, then I’ll help him out. Send Scott who has endurance and can run with him to tag the whole match. Gulden’s own endurance would be down after such a long injury layoff. If we halve that contest, then there is only 21 other players to worry about.

It really is one of the mysteries of the modern era. Stars and role players through every line. The best young talent of any team. Numerous elite VFL players who should be playing AFL.....

And then I check the ladder after 5 years of finishing bottom 2, and think "WTF is going on?" - things just aren't adding up.
