He was great in 2020. Rubbish and overrated since. But i still respect him.
He was always overrated, but luckily the team was good enough to cover him. Now there's nowhere to hide. Luckily for him (and a few others), our coaching staff and football department will happily let him cruise along until his contract eventually runs out, without a thought as to how having zero selection integrity is f**king the team, if not the club as a whole.

We keep calling Balta the dumbest player in the game. That may or may not be true (hard to find an argument against it), but of even greater concern is we seem to also have the dumbest coaching staff in the game too.

The worst thing is, he is stifling Banks' development. Last year Banks was playing some great footy whilst Short was in and out of the team.
Now Short is the one being preferred for some unknown reason and its not working.

Could make an argument it's stifling Browny as well.

It absolutely is. But that's okay because he's a premiership player.
It truly saddens me to see some of things written about Shorty. I've probably been his biggest fan. What saddens me more is the rate at which I'm agreeing with what's written about him.

He's been better than the last few seasons but at this point I'd rather see the kids play. The youth need consistent exposure together or our climb up is going to take even longer.

I sort of disagree being a premiership player is the reason he's still in, but I don't think it matters either way. He's one senior guy we can afford to replace with youth so we should.

I don't want to.hear meters gained or 20 possession game he just bombs to no body and turns it's over how he is in the leadership group is baffling

Need to move past him as he quarterbacks too much. Doesn’t use it and I’d prefer Brown, Grijl getting the footy.
He's not a quarterback, he's a punter. A shit one.

This is my next crusade after Hopper got  managed dropped.

Get him out of the backline. I'd honestly prefer him out of the team but I can cop a move to the wing to see what it looks like.
He just can't be our go-to distributer out of the backline as he is stifling the development of Tom Brown, Sam Banks and Luke Trainor and we just can't have that right now.

Short is still playing as if it were 2020. He gets the ball and bangs it forward to take territory. But the high-pressure forward game is gone, and his kicks are easy meat for rebounding backs.

I would love to hear what the explanation would be if that were to be put to Yze or Livingstone. And why we always look a better side when Short's not there and both Banks and Brown pay that role better than Short does.

I could understand why the match committee were still wanting him in the side as another senior body around so many kids, and to be fair he's still been one of our most consistent players this year, but from the original definition, he's now a list clogger.

That feels disrespectful to say for a B&F & multi-premiership player, but the way a list clogger was originally defined was a senior player who won't be part of our next period of success, blocking the development of some of our younger players (not just a younger kid who may not be up to the level as some use the term). Given the position he plays, this is exactly what he's now doing every time he plays as a HBF for us moving forward. Just look at how well Brown played on the weekend when he got the chance to play in that role.

Now I'm not saying we should be dropping him, or paying out his contract, but he needs to adapt and play on a wing or something else, build up his value as best as possible and see if we can move him on for a 2nd/3rd round pick, or pick upgrade at the end of the year for a team that needs a player of his type, but it can't be holding up the development of our kids any more.

I'd hate to join in the pile on, as he is a richmond player, and seems like a top bloke but.......
He has not set a good example on field for ages. He was a pretty good player in a great team, but has been found wanting
in a our rebuild. He plays the easiest position for cheap unaccountable footy, and is now holding back young players, whom by the way can play the roll as good if not better.
He doesn't have a defensive bone in his body, and will never win the most courageous player award, but is important for morale, and experience, and would be very hard to drop at this stage.(i would).
Our forward line has zero experience without lynch and nobody that can kick a goal to create a little scoreboard pressure.
Chuck him forward, he's dangerous with ball in hand anywhere near the fifty. Could be a ten touches two goals two assists type. Win, Win.

Agree with others I'd play him forward, its not like he's being replaced by 1st gamers, Banks and Brown are both in their 5th year and need to be handed the responsibility, we've seen masssive spikes in performance from both when Shorty is out. Also we have plenty of experience in the backline already.

He started as a small forward get him up there where we could use his experience.

I was hoping he would get an offer from another team that would get us a mid-late 2nd rounder
but looks like he is here until he retires now and that could be 3-4 years away
He will have just turned 32 for Tassie’s first season
