giving up on a chance at the flag next year already? We are talking about next season.
A lot of dwelling on the negative side of his game. Sure he is a bit undersized and not a seasoned defender, but he has played about 50 games. Another preseason in the gym and learning the defence craft (he was a mid/forward as a junior) and he will close that gap.Short has to do everything right too keep his spot in the side i think.
Yeah,Just don't know about Short. His weapon is his kicking thats for sure.Just has that awkward size about him.Half & fwd pocket players are getting bigger and stronger by the year.A lot of dwelling on the negative side of his game. But the top metres gained player in the league at one stage last season, and a goal scoring half back makes him fairly potent also. I would like to see him a bit more attacking if anything, so that he gets the ball running more like Bachar past players for the receive rather than around the back of them. If and when he develops that he will be a line breaker that will need tagging like Bachar has, or like Yarran was. Has a big upside, although noted he does have defensive deficiencies right.
Doesn't everybody?Short has to do everything right too keep his spot in the side i think.
Same size as Rory Laird. Laird is also an average defender compared to someone like Jedda of Melb. but he is a weapon because of the amount of ball he gets down back. Not many footballers are the complete package. Imagine if Grimes & Vlastuin or Jedda got 25+ possessions every week.Yeah,Just don't know about Short. His weapon is his kicking thats for sure.Just has that awkward size about him.Half & fwd pocket players are getting bigger and stronger by the year.
Some more than others.Doesn't everybody?
Grimes is best of the lot.Shits me no end he continues to get ignored because his stats don't add up and the most important stat is ignored.Same size as Rory Laird. Getting the kudos he deserves now. AA squad with some (non Richmond) people on BF saying he is the best if not on of the best defenders in the comp. Even some of the commentators know his name now.Grimes is best of the lot.Shits me no end he continues to get ignored because his stats don't add up and the most important stat is ignored.
Shoulda been AA.Getting the kudos he deserves now. AA squad with some (non Richmond) people on BF saying he is the best if not on of the best defenders in the comp. Even some of the commentators know his name now.
Markov is unlikely to be in the team if we are doing well thoughNa, most confident I've been.
Short wasn’t the reason why we were bundled out of the Finals
Short is easily best 22
Nobody said he was immune from responsibility. Young player making his way with major upside, but not quite there yet. Sure he needs to step up defensively a bit, but far from a liability. His finals weren't that good, but he's not alone there. He isn't immune from responsibility. Watch the reply...
Grimes, Vlastuin, Rance, Astbury
Cotchin, Martin, Prestia, Nank, Lambert, Edwards, Graham
Lynch, Riewoldt, Caddy, Rioli, Higgins, Butler
Above would be ahead of him, I think most would agree. Then you have guys like Houli, Mcintosh, Ellis going for similar spots in the teams and the younger crop (like Short)might too improve; Markov, Naish, Menadue
Pretty evasive too , doesn’t need to handball too often which is a surefire sign that you have the confidence and ability to use them wheels , don’t ever underestimate that , players that spend their whole career racking up dribble handball rarely hurt the oppo with score involvements50/50 with Short, good booming kick, and...!?!?
Agree, we were smashed in the centre , like All of our other failed finals over the years , the rest of the puzzle pieces fall into place after that , none of them as significant as the midfield being subduedShort wasn’t the reason why we were bundled out of the Finals. The whole of the BL was under immense pressure all night as Collingwood continually won midfield ball night. Rance played a mare of a game and Astbury shouldn’t have played with about six other blokes. We went in wounded and the result on the night reflected this.
Short is easily best 22 and the blokes that will need to lift are:
Houli only bc of his niggles he carries and he’s now getting on. We need him back to 2017 form.
Conca’s Replacement which in saying this he won’t have to improve by much.
Astbury as he also carries a lot of niggles and isn’t overly quick. Garthwaite is looking like his successor.
Broad and Graham had disappointing seasons as they again carried injuries which interrupted their progress.
Grigg is also nearing his end and only kept his spot for ruck reasons and sadly their was nobody better at VFL to push him out.
Just forget the Prelim as it was a disaster and a poor reflection of our season.
Yes he is less than adequate at times. Something for an attacking player turned defender 21 year old 51 game player to work on. And Grimes whilst great defending has plenty to work on as a attacking defender, (which he did for the first year this season.)Short is not 'more than adequate' defensively. He's less than adequate.
The right Chemistry makes a good front of back half , a mix of steel and dash makes for a good defensive unit , short and houli springboard us from defence into attack , we woke hard to get the ball into their hands we couldn’t achieve that with 6 Dour defendersShort isn't a Grimes defensively. But he's more than adequate as long as our midfield is restricting supply.
When he's on he's a dynamic operator. Oppositions started to soft mark him later in the season, perhaps why he seemed to drop off a bit. But how do you soft mark most of our defenders? I reckon after 2018 Short should get much better. More experience and more confidence that he belongs.
And of course, he's got plenty of pressure in the VFL coming on.
