Can you imagine how apoplectic the AFC board will go if our #70 goes alright and their #17 does not…..

Oh the melts..

I thought the Adelaide crowd at the draft itself behaved pretty poorly, booing Worsfold and generally acting like a sullen teenager who's had their iPad confiscated.
Were they? Because Worsfold went to Essendon, or because of the Chick drug allegations? Only badly behaved to Worsfold, or others too?

I guessed the former, but who knows.
There was a lot of booing and general bad feeling in the crowd.
That's disappointing. They've (well Crows have) had a very sad year, but that type of poor behaviour is unacceptable. So the draft won't be returning to Adelaide?

I went to the draft and agree about the idiots who were booing. Only a stupid minority, though.

Hayball's club (and mine), West Adelaide have a long-standing relationship with Geelong. One of our great players, Bernie Smith, won a Brownlow with the Cats, while perhaps the other well-known West player you'd know was The Prez, Bruce Lindner.

We're also the home club of Rehn, Ricciuto, Edwards, Modra, Rutten, Hartlett, etc but apologies for mentioning them.

Oh, another bloke you may be familiar with also played several games for West.........

Someone called Patrick Dangerfield.

Thanks R+B. It's all very interesting! Didn't know about the West + Geelong association, great, isn't it?
It's fine mentioning the Crows players, also good to learn.
When did Danger play for West?

Until recently, Crows and Port players picked up in the draft from interstate went into a 'mini draft' of the SANFL clubs. West finished up with Patrick and he played a few games for us at SANFL level, when it became obvious he was too good for our level. A few others who were similar for us were Robbie Gray, Nick Stevens, while Dom Cassisi played a fair bit for us.

Glenn Kilpatrick won a magarey for the Bloods too I believe.

That interview compares him to Pittard... is he a high leaper?
I was sort visualising WHE
From the highlights and how I've heard him described, I was thinking he was more like Birchall, who is a great mark, and a good left foot kick

Correct. He came from Essendon to us, played 1 year, won the Magarey Medal, then to Geelong.

He didn't win our B & F, though, that went to the much-maligned former No 1 pick, Anthony Banik, who was wonderful for us and a great bloke.

Oh? OK. So you don't have a specific Snaffle equivalent VFL team for the Crows or Port?

We also currently have Rhys Stanley & Zac Bates on the books.

But being a WWT supporter I'm pretty filthy on the Bloods this year.

Probably not the place for it but a few of us were keen on Snelling and Haysman had a bit of love (well, from me at least).

Surprised they weren't picked up? The little I saw I thought they were stiff, Snelling particularly, but be interested to get your take.

Yes, Rhys was part of a great crop of juniors for us and i gather that Zac is really fit and ready to go.

Understand your thoughts on the Bloods, but I sense you think 32 years between drinks softened the blow a bit. At least it was a western suburbs derby.

Right now, Snelling is probably the best 18yo in the SANFL, Milera included, with Haysman right up there. Snelling is just outstanding every game, but I think recruiters might think they've shown what they can do and they're looking for some X-Factor. Certainly Snelling must wonder how 11 SA players can get drafted and he's far better than any of them. The difference a few cms make?

We could get hit hard in the rookie draft - Snelling, Haysman, Agostino (Really good), Brind (probably not likely), Keough, Stevens, Beech all some chance.

First draft I can recall where your team (WWT) didn't have a player drafted?

Who?? :p

After watching his highlights package.... he is they type that Wells does tend to like ...not necessarily great in one thing but an overall nice package.
Id question he kicking... does he have a right foot..cause lefts are normally so one sided. He catches defenders covering his right a couple of times...that will not happen in afl..not for long. He seems to move nicely across the ground... I was struggling to think who he reminds me of.... would Blake Carracella be a fair comparison? He seems to play tall for his height... he mentions in his interview that he played CHF at some stage when he kicked 4 goals.

Plays as that high half forward. Very good aerobically can push up the ground, brilliant over head then can kick goals. Was Westies leading Goal Kicker for their u18s this season.

Has a 1m+ veritcal leap. Was the "3rd man up" a lot of the time in the forward half, as well as having a couple of pinch hits in the ruck.

Booming left foot kick, can be inconsistent at times. Has a tidy right foot, but like most left footers likes to wheel inside onto his left.

Very raw, but with a lot of x factor and upside. Will need to put a few kgs.

Sounds like the perfect candidate for the Wells slow 2 year cook recipe. Often leads to the media in 2 years time going "Wells has done it again.. where the hell did he find him" or we pump him for 2 years and he leaves like Hamling, JJ etc….

Results aside, sounds like he has the tools.

Will be fantastic for Hayball to have the number 15 right in between the 2 Selwood's he will learn a lot from!

Also will build up muscle quick in his arms having to be in the middle & stop fights between the two in the locker room :P

Hope Hayball chooses a good manager, to help him make the best of his career.
"DRAFTED with the last selection of the night, new Geelong rookie Matthew Hayball didn’t even have a manager before his name was read out.

The 18-year-old South Australian grew up kicking the footy in the backyard with his dad, Geoff, who played with Port Pirie and Alice Springs during his playing days."
