Nice video, but in essence its just another fund-raiser dinner for the wealthier Geelong suuporters, this time in a tent down near Cunningham Pier somewhere. There has been no talk that I know of returning something or celebrating something with the community that has supported the club for 150 years.

Agreed. How expensive is it??? I mean its basically a corporate event really, given the cost. Oh well, looks like I'll just celebrate on my own....

What a ****ing joke.

Good to see the club celebrating the 150 year anniversary with the corporates. Someone should remind them when the stands are empty not to trod on the members feet. ;)

Funny, I reckon a win a month (not even, geez its going slow...) ago and it'd sell out so quick its not funny. Now, I reckon people might hold off a while. Heaven help em if we have an average season next year....

Yeah, and the financial crisis wouldn't be helping either...

Am I right in presuming there will be other events next year? How hard is it to organize a giant BYO picnic around late March with a few great bands, with well loved faces from seasons past introduced, etc. etc. to kick off the new season? A street parade? 150 1/2 Cats punch each other out in a giant ring? Shouldn't be hard to top Melbourne's effort this year...

It says somewhere on the GFC site that the 150th gala dinner is the culmination of two weeks of activities/events next year... let's hope that some of the other events aren't just for those who earn $150k a year.

FROM THE ADDY:

GEELONG Football Club will forgo a financial windfall to celebrate its 150th anniversary next year.
The club is six months into planning a major not-for-profit event on the Geelong Waterfront on August 8 next year to commemorate a century and a half of history.
"It's not our intention to make any money from it, it's being put on to celebrate 150 years and being the second oldest football club," Geelong chief operating officer Stuart Fox said.
"The infrastructure costs are enormous. We're building a marquee on the Geelong Waterfront, because places that hold 1500 people in Geelong basically don't exist.
"We could have taken it to Melbourne but we were really conscious that we wanted to do it in our own town."
All past players and coaches will be invited to the event.
"We think there'll be about 400-500 past players that will end up coming," Fox said.
The function will instead be held on Saturday, August 8, with a Friday night game in Melbourne to be played the night before.
Up to 1000 tickets will be available to the general public and corporate partners, to go on sale from the club on Monday.
Club legends, premiership players, players who played 150-plus games, and coaches will be invited free of charge.
As part of the 150th anniversary program, a supporters' breakfast will be held at Skilled Stadium on Saturday, August 1, with past players involved.

The last part sounds ok......:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:
