Hi Everyone,

My name is Marcus and my mission for 2007 is to go to 16 games with fans of 16 teams before finally picking one to settle down with for life (been in Melbourne for a few years without actually settling on a team - i'm originally from Newcastle, not a lot of the AFL kind of footy up that way).

I am doing the whole project by going to games with people who call in to ABC radio and documenting the whole thing with a blog over at http://whatsmyteam.wordpress.com and by recording stuff for the radio.

By the end of the year, i aim to be able to privide the difinitive and independent answer to the quesiton of which team is the best one to follow...

If you have an opinion, flood my comments over there with it!

:)

thanks,

marcus.

Marcus, I envy you, I wish I could do that. Anyway, I was in Australia once for a month and had few great footy experiences. Like you when I came down under I had no idea what team to go for (although I was playing footy for few years and following AFL). Playing for Arizona Hawks in 2001 I got in contact with Ian Dicker who took me to Hawthorn practice where I met all the players and ate lunch with Jeff Kenneth, Joel Smith and PR lady. Few days later Ian Dicker took me and my wife to see Hawks - Blues including premiership lunch, where I gave a speach in front of 100 VIPs about Croatian footy. Amazing experience, and no matter what you say the best team to follow is, I'll be brown and gold for life.

Great idea, your obviously too smart to end up barracking for Collingwood, so you can probably rule that one out (although it would be one hell of an experience, just don't let them con you into buying the 1st round).

Tried to access your link, but it came up 404 not found, sure its right?

Hey that's a great story, do you mind if i quote that in my blog? So are you you from Croatia via the States or the other way around? How did you get into AFL?

Will you be spending the whole time in Melbourne?

It may be quite difficult to get a supporter to take you from one of the interstate teams

Well, the budget is a bit tight. (ie. non-existant) so it will be in Melbourne unless i've got a reason to be somewhere else for my day job (may take me to Sydney and Brisbane but unlikely to take me to Adelaide and Perth). With the help of ABC radio and fourms like these i should be able to round up a few fans of the interstate teams (they may not be the most hardcore) and if worse comes to worse i may just have to tap some people i know who are fans of interstate teams on the shoulders.

Good stuff, what's my team.

As a passionate Hawk fan, i'd say (obviously), that there's no better team to support heading into the future.

Jump on the Hawthorn bandwagon. ;)

Interestingly enough, which club matches have you attended so far and who (if any), would you be leaning towards?

Not a good idea to go for Richmond any time soon :D

Even though I go for them.. Anyway, wlecome to BigFooty!

I am on Richmond this week actually and looking for someone to call in on the ABC 774 in Melbourne at around 4:45 this afternoon. Details on the blog.

Also, finally got around to posting my Melbourne update and have a Hawks one to come.

when you seeing the cats? make sure when ever its down at KP

I am REAL keen to see Geelong in Geelong. I nearly did it last weekend but the logistics of it screwed me. I came back from Sydney late the night before and was staying up all night for the cricket ... so the details of getting to Geelong were a bit tricky at the time.

Does anyone know whether Geelong games sell out early at KP or can i get a ticket at shortish notice?

you should be able to get a ticket depending on what game it is.
some games sell out but others against interstate teams dont usually but you will probably have to line up for a while to get a ticket
anyway if you come down to geelong make sure you dont get stabbed or shot!
good luck with picking a club! :thumbsu:

Yeah, just updated my blog with a brief report about the game from last night and i ended it with the comment that i am looking forward to checking out Geelong. It DEFINATELY wasn't the best week to check out Richmond, although the people that took me were troopers and stuck with it til the end. They were as lovely as they were devastated...

Finally got around to posting the full report today. I hope there's something positive in it for the Tiger fans.

As for Geelong, i am going to KP to see them this weekend. It should be a good game, but if anything can kill Geelong's momentum its the Eagles and Me...

What wheels?

It's actually pretty fun but a loss of that magnitude seems to have brought out the best in the Tiger fans. They rocketed from outsiders to genuine contenders in the team i might choose stakes because of the way the fans responded to it...

It was funny but maybe a dozen of them ended up sending testamonials about how i should get on board after everything that happened and it may very well end up working.

They seem like a good bunch of people to suffer with :)
