..unfortunately we appear twice ^^^

- 25 to 39 we were basically a reserve side playing against seniors.

- 53 to 65 Melbourne just about beat everyone. We actually did beat them in the early 53 match & the late 65 match. They won 6 premierships in that 13 year streak.

They ure weren't ! Didn't play their first final till 1957.

North stopped them from making their first finals appearance in 1943, beating them by a point in the final round. Hawthorn had only to win and they would make it. But their champion full forward could not get leave from the RAAF to play and they did not kick a goal until the third quarter. Trailing by 3 points at three quater time and a strong breeze to come home with, Hawthorn, from 13 shots at goal, managed just 1.8 (and 4 OOB), while North kicked 2 goals into the wind. Hawthorn used this game as incentive to beat North the following year, but lost both 1944 encounters. They beat North unexpectedly in their only clash in 1945, when North were in good form.

So we have to beat Melbourne in at least the next three encounters to equal their record against us. I remember when the last long unbeaten run started in 1976. Melbourne beat us in Round 1 at Arden St against all odds, just after our first Premiership pennant was unfurled. They did not beat us again until Round 15 1984.
