Played more games under Hird than any other player. I would call that successful
If Melksham is your definition of success, don't go into any sort of career counseling or mentoring role.

He might have potential but at the moment he is average, and doesn't seem to be improving his faults despite playing the most out of any player. That doesn't sound successful to me, it sounds like he is an underachiever. A kick in the ass by dropping him for a month or so might be what he needs to pull his foot out. Conversely, a month in the 1's might be what Jetta needs to find some form.
Win-win

Some people refuse to see his improvement.

Last year he was horrible. I don't dispte that. This year there is one area he HASN'T improved in: his delivery. That's it

Lets face it.. just like teachers have favourite students.. coaches have favourite players.

Doesn't matter what Jetta does or doesn't do.. Jake will ALWAYS get the nod before him.. just the way it is.

Clearly clearly clearly the only think Melksham has shown is that he is clearly Hird's favourite... he knows it and I think the rest of the team do too.. and especially Jetta (I wouldn't be surprised if that is why he gave Hird the cold shoulder the other night)... there is NO way you can justify Melkshams continued and unexplained selection every single week any other way because his play and stats just simply don't support it.

Guys like Merrett, Kav, Colyer, Hams, Jetta have all shown they have 'glimpses' and could make great AFL players.. and yet no opportunites come to them to spend 70 straight weeks in the seniors... Melksham has had an armchair ride and obviously has the hoover lips.. the other guys should follow his lead and suck harder...

Well Hird said he was BOG, so that makes me think he was BOG. Just maybe
Let's just say that he was for a second, one good game in the VFL means he's clearly too good for VFL? I honestly don't know what to say to that.

What does that say about Jetta?
Jetta over the past three years has averaged about the identical amount of contested possessions per game as Melksham, not to mention more tackles than Melksham. Melksham is about as 'hard' as Jetta, whatever that means.

Cool, he certainly helps our defence with some great decision making.

Played more games under Hird than any other player. I would call that successful
Then you have a low standard of what constitutes successful.

That is laughable
Show me how it is laughable, what exactly has Melksham done?

Serious question, are you friends with Melksham or have some kind of connection with him?

He played against North Ballarat in a 32-point win, he had 27 touches and wasn't named in the best. Will Hams had 30 touches that day, NLM had 28, Ashby had 28. Pears, NLM, Ashby, Jetta, Davis and Bate were named in the bests. Hardly justifies Melksham being clearly too good for VFL.

Would say Melksham is particularly hard though.

Jetta's arguably better offensively.

I would hardly call him successful, more like barely keeping his head above the water.

Jetta has done as much, if not more than Melksham.
Wrong on pretty much all counts Re: Jetta. He's soft as butter, poor defensively in his "Jack Watts" approach around the footy, doesn't get the pill anywhere near enough to be dangerously offensive and has consistently shown he is not up to the rigours of AFL. Melksham is clearly a tougher unit. At least he has a crack and there is scope for improvement.

Remind me again about your thoughts on Gumbleton before this year?

I still see him slowly jogging instead of giving chase, watching people who SHOULD be slower sprinting from behind him to put pressure on the ball carrier.
I find this sort of thing is unforgivable and deserving of being dropped. He hasn't improved in this area.

Horrible + selective improvement doesn't = automatic best 22

I don't need stats to tell me who goes when they have to go and who hits the contest harder. Prime example against Richmond on the weekend when it was Jetta's time to go back with the flight on the wing/half forward line and he squibbed it. If there was a statistic for being around the contest without any real impact then Jetta would be leading the pack...

I still see many others do that. Everybody lauds Kommer for his fanatical chasing yet I saw him jog on 3/4 occassions when there was a chase on the weekend. I also watch Melksham be the only bloke give chase to Matt White streaming down the middle and maintain pace with him on the weekend, and Matt White is quick. He most certainly has. People only see Melksham do it because they only WANT to see Melksham do it

Better than most + improvement in most of his flaws = best 22

I don't think he really did squib it.

In any case, when exactly has Melksham 'gone'? I think he's rather unproven in that respect.

Is he honestly better than most?

How has he really improved apart from a couple more disposals a game. His decision making and awareness are still deplorable.

Where have I said he's a gun? I'm arguing that he's improved and is best 22. Stop with your elitist crap
You're carrying on like anyone who suggests he should potentially be dropped is a moron.

Calling him "successful" at AFL level because he hasn't been injured is an insight into how warped your perspective on him is.

In all fairness apart from any other issue or comparison, i don't see how Jetta can come in for criticism from anybody this year. He has done what has been asked of him and opportunities have not until now, come his way. Lets see what he does this week and then maybe next week before taking out the knives. If he falls down in similar ways to last year then fair enough. But it is taking the piss to make any judgement on him now. Defend Melksham all you like Eth-dog, but i don't see where you get your ideas about Jetta's current form and state of play. You want Melksham to be judged by what he is doing this year but not Jetta?

You are comfortable saying that at this point? He is coming up for his first consecutive game for the season ffs.
Yep. He was lazy and disinterested in both his games so far. Should have reamed GWS when he was playing midfield and was admittedly played out of position against the tigers but was still poor
