no, and Hird is their boss
On some level he needs to appease the masses. Were he not the golden boy the choruses of derision from the fans would likely be much louder.

W.r.t. the players, I'm not sure you quite understand the dynamic of working for a manager, let alone what it would be like in a job where you're competing with your peers for a finite number of positions. Hird's role as senior coach is to instruct, develop and mentor, not be a fanatical dictator.

Hird's mandate is to maximise the performance of the team as a whole unit, if you don't see how giving games to someone who may be considered internally as inferior to another individual could affect team performance, I'm not sure we should be engaging in this conversation. That's the sort of thing that can affect players both within and on the fringes of the team.

Admittedly, if there are aspects of Melksham's contribution to the team which are more intangible and seen by all players on the list, then there's no issue with his ongoing automatic selection

Who are the equivalent "that player" at other clubs?

Daniel Jackson- Richmond?
Ben Sinclair- Collingwood?
Robbie Warnock- Carlton?
Tambling- Adelaide?

I wonder whether there could be a shift in focus in coming weeks for the balance of the midfield. The defensive side of their game is going great, but many people are critical of their delivery into the forwards. Jettas name has come up in reference to this already, as he could add something to their offense. As long as TRB are still thinking defense first, Melksham will continue to hold an edge over Jetta. But if they start to think that they have that side of things covered and they need more offensive capabilities, Jetta would be in the spot light at least. What i'm saying is, could they start to overlook Jettas defensive short comings whereas in the past they have not?

I have never understood ppl who complain about the content/current discussion in threads.. if you don't like it.. don't read it. FFS its a forum.. the whole concept is to debate and discuss things.. sometimes it will be with merit, and sometimes without..

Feel free not to post your disappointment with the topic in future.

Is 70 pages of it required though?

Why not.. do you have to pay per page?

I agree that less posts *should* have been needed, in fact one might have been enough:

Tries, shows promise but doesn't cut it at AFL yet, play a year in the two's and then hit the big time with a bang.

Zaharakis probably screwed Melksham a bit. Kicked on in his third year to win a B&F. Who was the next guy coming into their third year but Melksham. He had an average year and was despised evermore.

Wouldn't say that, I guess the fact he played every game regardless of his abhorrent form is what really got people frustrated, thus expecting a hell of a lot more from him.

Wasn't bad but killed all momentum we had early in last term with a terrible kick to the pocket when he should have had a shot. To top it off they kicked a goal straight away

Melksham touched it.. for sure.. and his first qtr on Jetta was exceptional.. really really good.

However once Jetta got off the chain.. Melksham didn't really stick with him. Also think Jake calls for the ball too many times and costly costly costly skill errors. Liability. Oh and 3 Clangers.. again.

He did enough to get picked for the next five years though.

Jetta didn't really "get off the chain" though
