So good to see Grima back. Really looking forward to getting McMahon back. We haven't seen Grima, McMahon and Thompson together for an age and I feel like these three love playing together. They seem to have great understanding of eachother.

They were terrific. Managed to pretty much negate Brown in the forward 50 without giving away free kicks and ran off him at will. Some of that #44's goals resulted from Narni helping Keys to negate Brown.

He's still a dangerous player but pretty much a shadow of his former greatness.

One of the highlights of the day for mine. :thumbsu:

The clear highlight for me. Someone getting physical and against Brown to boot.

They were both very good today.

Is there vision of Luke's remonstration?? Would love to see it.

There efforts were very good, spoil after spoil. Would be even better if the opposition midfield weren't getting perfect delivery every time. Seem to recall at one point they were on 14 inside 50s for 9 scoring shots or something like that. Very efficient. Second half was another matter.

Luke Delaney was very good today, but I couldn't help but think that J Brown isn't half the footballer he used to be.

The Browny I remember would have worked Delaney over to exhaustion, but today he didn't seem to want to work him up and down the ground at all.

Also he doesn't seem to command the F50 like he used to which was highlighted by Merrett being the focus last week.

Not sure if it's a fitness thing or whether the game has just caught up to him?

But that aside well done to Delaney he shut down the one bloke that can take the game away from you.

Luke really monstered Briwn in quite a few contests with his physicality.
Cam was very good with his dash off half back and his defensive efforts.

Grima was a great third up man and marked a lot of the opposition kicks into the fwd line and is very calm with ball in hand. Might I say he rarely turns it over and makes me feel at ease when he has the ball.

The Delany brothers as our permanent FB/CHB combination????

My ears had heard but now my eyes have seen ... and I liked it!

Luke held Brown to just two goals
Cam didn't only defend pretty well but looked really good rebounding out of defence

And the best part? They haven't even played 50 games between them! :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Luke Delaney is well over-rated on this board IMO. He has been beaten in virtually every game I have seen him play. He did well to keep Brown to 2 goals today, but let's not forget Brown still took more marks than any other player on the park. Having said this, I think today was Luke's best game and he affected some great spoils in 1 on 1 contests. Hopefully this is a sign he is on a positive trajectory.

On the other hand, I think Grima is often underrated. I agree with the earlier poster in wondering why some folks don't see him holding down a key post. He did this well before sustaining long term injury.

Luke negates the gorillas in the air extremely well. A deficiency this club has had since the retirement of micky martyn.

I'm more than happy to allow him to concede lace out marks to opponents of the calibre of Brown and Reiwoldt up on the wing.

Try to conceive just how much more effective he will be when our midfield start to place more pressure on the opposition. He's a keeper whilst he has a decent match up next weekend and he will have a decent match up in Roughead. Once he gets some midfield defensive support he will be an automatic inclusion.

Luke and Cam are the future defensive spine of North.

Over-rated? No I think most posters understand that the guy has only played 15 games but are optimistic that with patience he will that FB we have missed since Mick.

And Narni isnt under rated. When fit he is arguably our most important backmen. If he stays healthy and when Scotty Mc comes back in our back half will tighten up considerably.

I'd hate to be a defender with our midfield. The problem at the moment is that we leak so many goals and undermines the good work the defenders do for 85% of the game.

As previously stated in this thread, the sooner the mids start running both ways for the whole game the better our defenders will be. I am starting to believe that our mids really need to step up their fitness because they are not running out games. When they run back to help the defence like they did in the first half we look a very good unit but as soon as a couple of mids stop running back to help looking for the cheap kick forward of the contest we look bottom 4.

Browny took quite a few marks on his defensive 50. Quite happy for him to be chasing up the ground to get the pill.

How many of Browny's mark were inside 50? Though this was one of Luke's better games.

Yep. I reckon he beat him in every body on body contest over four quarters, or close to it.

i reckon the only game luke has been beaten this year was against port!

that imo was largly due to the fact the mids werent putting pressure on and jay was getting them lace out on the chest!

Luke took Brown to the cleaners. Cam was very good off half back.
Agreed. Both look like good long term prospects. That's the second time Luke has taken Brown to the cleaners, the first being in his first AFL game. Two tough, no nonsense boys from the western district going hard at it. That's what footy is all about.
If anything, it highlights how little respect we paid to Schulz last week.
Which is odd because it wasn't the first time Schulz has given us grief.

I thought both were excellent yesterday in one-on-one contests. I kept expecting Brown to push Delaney out but Delaney clearly had the better of nearly every duel.

Also haven't seen anyone mention Brisbane's kicking for goal yesterday. Let's face it, it was exceptional and I think a more 'normal' tally of 11.10 as opposed to 15.6 would have seen us with a much more comfortable win (which was already pretty comfortable). Both of Brown's goals were from very tight angles.

Body on body he is good. We just need to be aware of his limitations as he gets well and truly torched on the lead.

There's barely a defender in our side that can't get torched on the lead.

This has little to do with the defenders.

At times sure but last week it was blatantly obvious he kept taking up a starting position next to or behind Schultz. He needed to try and get a good few metres in front. You cop the kick over the back because it's easier to generate a third man up situation.
