Rance was the 5th ranked Richmond player (99 DT points). He had an outstanding game, with:
19 possessions, 8 marks, 5 tackles, 5 Frees for (none against).

With superb assistance from Chappy and Newy in particular, Rance was a huge contributor, and good on him.
Of course the backline boys had to be. They were bombarded by 59 inside 50's (thanks to the midfield ), but they stayed focused and composed from start to finish.

Some very dangerous big men were kept in check, and to keep the team to 13 goals was unbelievable. I believe Rance is improving every week (as is Chaplin, and hopefully Batchelor).

Next Monday night will be another huge task, and you would think we will need another big man to give us a chop out. Astbury is one who would be close.
But you know with Tross, he will go full bore whatever the task, and won't die wondering.
Great stuff. :thumbsu:

rfctigerarmy without wishing to steal your Chris Newman content (but I will :D), near the end of this interview, Chris talks about his admiration for Alex Rance.
He alludes to the off-field turmoil he went through, and it's not rocket science to conclude it affected his form earlier in the year (duly noted on BF and fair enough, he did have a couple of shockers)
But he's broken the shackles of that, and is playing some great footy. You'd have to say our back six are killing it, both when we win and lose, and this is the key if we're going to play finals.
Like Chappy's interview last week, old Newy is very impressive. :thumbsu:

7 kicks, 6 handpasses, 5 marks, 4 tackles - 62 DT points (16th ranked Richmond player).

Not huge numbers, but these don't reflect what Rance did. After two early goals to Kennedy, he was on track for a stack, but only got one more for the game (in the last quarter) plus three behinds. That's a great result, almost a smashing.

And Morris (rank 21) smashed LeCras, and Batchelor (20) smashed Darling, and Chaplin (19) smashed the resting rucks. So the rankings don't really paint the picture of dominance we had in the back half.

Granted the Eagles were crap, but we made them crap after the first quarter, and Alex and the boys can take a lot of credit for this. Brilliant work. :thumbsu:

And speaking of crap, have we found winnyblues yet...? :p

I had a bye last week, so here's a quick report on the last two games from Alex Rance:

As you can see, the stats of Alex (and his fellow defenders), do not paint a true picture of their valiant efforts. That's just the lay of the land, and it's why a backman will be hard pressed to win a Brownlow. I'm hoping the Club voting allows their efforts to be recognised (as I have actually picked Rance and Morris to finish top 3 :)). Chaplin has also been superb, and Houli, despite playing a different role, could actually win the Jack Dyer if he keeps going.

Rance has been superb, without being spectacular, he justs goes about his business. He rarely plays a bad game, and the previous knocks on him (disposal, keeping his feet, trying to do too much) are being seen much less. He's a beauty, and I hope we can get his signature real soon, along with Riewoldt, Martin, Conca and Grimes. That's not asking too much is it...?

"Win the next three, it's plain to see."

Go Tiges!

Rance had a midfielder's possession count (30), and showed he is an elite defender, with 16 marks, 5 tackles and 17 pressure acts. 147 SC Points, ranked number 1 on the field, and by a fair margin.
Oh, and 83% efficiency. Not bad for a dodgy battler.

I have always overlooked Big Al's shortcomings, because I'm confident a game like this is always round the corner.
When you give 100% every week, that's what will happen.
He kept Mayne to 16 possessions (only 7 more after quarter-time), two pretty soft goals, and mopped up everything else covering for his mates.

I was a little surprised that Rance more than doubled Mayne's SC points (72). What a game.
And Chaplin. He has made Rance an even better player. 100% efficiency for that man again.

If the back line boys can keep it up, there's no reason why we can't repeat 2012, and beat those Swannies. It's on their deck, but we're a team now that should be saying, "Anywhere, Anytime."
Bring it. :rainbow:

Versus Hawthorn Round 19...

I was waiting to hear from Lance Franklin on 360 (and he's not very funny BTW), because I was sure the boys would ask him about Rance.
"Yeah he's good at punching it away. In the wet."
He doesn't need back-handed compliments Buddy boy, it's not the first time he's pulled your pants down, and won't be the last.

Rance - 57 DT points
Chaplin - 56
Astbury - 39
Morris - 17

These are putrid scores and something has to be done. You won't find better defensive games than these four lads, and great return from Dave in particular. I had to check if Gunston was playing. Same with Roughhead (Chappy) and Rioli (Morro). Embarrassed them.

Rance completely shut down Lance, both in the DRY and in the wet. He was fast, he was furious, and he was composed. The latter has been the key for him this year, as he continues his Jack Dyer medal winning form. :)

I'm confident we could win our first final (whoever that may be), and we may be facing Hawthorn in the next, or the next...

But first we should be looking at winning the next four block, especially our mortal enemies Carlton and Essendon. But can't help feeling Brisbane won't test us first. Let's go. :thumbsu:
