Hurley unlucky but man the fitness department needs a massive review come seasons end
They do, but this has nothing to do with the fitness department. His shoulder's been busted from a bump, that can and will happen sometimes regardless of how good a fitness department of that team is.

I don't believe for a second that was fitness based. The whole team just wasn't coordinated and working together cohesively. Frankly we were a complete mess.
I'd have to watch the game again, but from what I recall we were second to the ball pretty much all night. It was embarrassing. The following week v. St Kilda we made it to the contest better. Whitfield's run especially exposed us.

This has been a trend all year. Consistently give up goals where we get massively outnumbered in their forward line.

The ones that have concerned me the most have been the management of the groin injuries (Daniher and Stewart). Injuries do happen in football. Dev Smith's injury is up for debate but he did win the b&f the previous year (obviously with the pre-existing knee condition) so I think it wasn't unreasonable to be optimistic rather than sending him in for premature surgery. Heppell's the other 'known' condition but we've yet to see if he's going to miss more than just a couple of weeks, if he does then questions will be asked.

Hurley's injury is unlucky, nothing you can do to stop contact injuries..
The ones that are concerning are the reoccurring injuries which continue to plague us.
Almost every player who has had a historical injury condition has experienced a reoccurrence of that injury under Crow's watch.

Off the top of my head:
Ambrose - quads
Joey - groins
Devon - Knee
Raz - hammys
Stewart - groins
Hepp - foot

Could cost us now that we've somehow put ourselves in a position to make a play for finals..

Best the surgeon's had with this surgery is 5 weeks. Club says 6-8. 6 is round 23, 8 is the first week of finals.

Experienced defender Michael Hurley underwent surgery on Monday and Crow revealed the club is expecting him to be off the field for approximately six to eight weeks.

ā€œMichael Hurley had that high-grade AC joint injury from the match, which involves an amount of separation within that joint.

ā€œHe saw the surgeon and heā€™s had surgery to fix that joint back into place, itā€™s a similar operation to what Jayden Laverde had a couple of years ago.

ā€œThe earliest the surgeon has had anyone return from that is five weeks, our best estimate is six to eight.

ā€œWeā€™ll be tracking Michael early through his rehab and get a feel for when he can start running and when he can start building up towards playing again.ā€

I think this was B4L's point as well. There's an established pattern there that should be looked into.

Having to prove his fitness under normal circumstances usually means probably another week unless super desperate. But I think we're pretty close to super desperate so time will tell.

Two-time All Australian Michael Hurley is in the mix to return for Essendonā€™s crucial clash with Fremantle at Optus Stadium on Saturday.

Hurley has been on the sidelines since suffering an AC joint injury in the Bombersā€™ defeat of North Melbourne in round 17, but impressive recent progress has seen the important defender eye off a potential return this week.

ā€œMichael Hurley saw the specialist earlier this week,ā€ club physical performance manager Justin Crow said on Tuesday.

ā€œIf he can train well and prove his fitness from that shoulder point of view, which weā€™re hopeful that he can, then thereā€™s a chance that heā€™ll be made available this weekend.ā€

Apparently no one has ever come back as quickly from ACL surgery as quickly as Hurls if he plays this week.

I've heard that he is also the only one to ever have a shoulder diagnosed as an ACL
