Banned Essendon players could be convinced to walk out on club with rivals circling

MICHAEL Hurley is being urged to walk from Essendon and the lure could as much as $900,000 a season.

Up to six clubs have spoken to Hurley’s manager Paul Connors about invoking a previously unused clause in the player contract which would allow the banned Hurley to leave Essendon and join the club of his choice.

All 12 suspended Essendon players - who could become delisted free agents if they choose - could use the same trigger to leave Essendon.

The Bombers are confident the suspended players will recommit to the club, but sources told the Herald Sun this week Hurley was reconsidering his future.

That’s not to say Hurley definitely wants out, but that he’s not 100 per cent committed to the club as he was six weeks ago.

If 25-year-old Hurley did decide he wanted out, the Bombers could either agree to it, which is unlikely, or fight.

Everytime I read about our players being courted by other clubs, I feel sick - this is going to be a long year in more ways than one!
It's the thing I am most dreading about this year, not any potential thrashings. Surely Hurley wouldn't leave but with Paul Connors as his manager...

Yeah sorry.

Opposition clubs shouldn't be allowed to talk to player agents from the banned 12 considering Essendon aren't allowed to be involved in any discussions it's simply wrong and not fair.

Cant blame the manager, at the end of the day the player has to agree to anything that happens, its the managers job to get them the best deal available for what they want.
I think managers are paid some sort of commission aren't they? So telling other clubs the players isn't 100% committed keeps the market competitive. If someone else is offering him 4 years at 900k, and we're offering 7 years at 800k, then he has a choice to make. But if he's dedicated to us and no one else tables an offer then he'll never know what else is out there and we could lowball him.
