Kicking, and how well he covers the ground. Made a mockery of my exhaustive two minutes of pre draft YouTube research.
I have to second this. I had thought his kicking and pace were average. They aren't elite attributes, but the fact they are good, on top of his other great attributes, really shows me what other people were seeing pre-draft that had me a little confused.

Sam Walsh will do his best work inside midfield, it will noticeable as he acclimatizes.
An amazing footy IQ, beautiful hands, distributes to team advantage always, great endurance to get to most contests. Sam is competent on the outside but his very best will be inside.
In a few years we’ll have Cripps, Walsh and Stocker another aggressive insider with explosive burst speed dominating the AFL.
But we need help with the outside aspect, Lochie O’Brien helps but is not ready yet.

One thing we're unlikely to say when Walsh is playing, unless he's on the bench - Where the **** is Walsh?

I know I've said this before but, but I was gob-smacked watching him last live year.
One contest is done and he's already at the next one, ball goes there and he's in place and good to go, he passes the ball off and ready to receive again should he be needed.

Even in his first year at this club, it's likely to be the #18 you'll see more than any other number on your screens. Amazing young man.

The run he did this weekend from HB …. and popped up in the HFF to set up was insane from a first year player.

For those that haven't seen him live, please make the effort and watch the number 18 play.

Without gushing too much, the kid is second only to Cripps as our most influential player so far from my viewing. His balance, agility, gut running and spread is simply phenomenal.

He ran 16.2 km on Saturday which was more than anyone on the ground. He had 28 disposals, kicked a goal, had 3 rebound 50s and 13 of his touches were contested.

Furthermore, he had a team high 30 pressure acts and spent 112 minutes out of 125 on the ground. Compare this to Dow and Setterfield who spent 95 minutes on field. Fisher and SPS had 17 pressure acts, Polson and Gibbons even less. He is setting the benchmark for performance in every category.

All this from an 18 year old in his 3rd game.

I’m still putting my hard earned on Connor Rozee to win this years Rising Star Award.

Forward is a much harder position to play.

Rozee received this week’s Rising Star nomination. Five goals and plenty of possessions made him a certainty.

Reading the comments he made concerning his nomination I’d suggest he’s a confident lad.

“I need to build my tank and put on some body size but I think I can develop into a pretty damaging midfielder," Rozee said.

I can’t imagine our bloke coming up with the same comment when he gets nominated.

He won’t be saying it because he already is a damaging midfielder.

Absolute gun - I said it in JLT - already one of our five best players certainly top 3 midfielder - just amazing already looks lie a future Captain.
Props man. I disputed you at the time, but damn he's exceeded my expectations.

Walsh is a jet and in 2021 I think he will be a top 10 mid of the competition.

He has the brains to go with his elite running power and strength of character to keep going - genuine hard nut mongrel with class- very very rare. I don't think 'bludge' is in his vocabulary. I wanted Shiel big time and was prepared to use #1 pick if that is what it took - but realised I was wrong as soon as I watched him play his first JLT.

Seriously I cannot remember another kid coming into our team and showing what he has shown at his age. I could be wrong but in overall broad footy capacity, I truly cannot fault this kid. His gut running, disposal and defensive work are some of the best we have in the team, let alone from a 3 gamer.

I hope he keeps his head and keeps focused because he can be anything. I get the hype now!
