A brilliant result. I have posted enough about Walsh already, but this is huge. He’ll start as Lachie Whitfield and transition into Josh Kelly.

Our young players are on notice - Walsh already works harder than all of them, so they’ll have to lift to keep up.

For what it’s worth, the other comparison I’ve heard a few times is Robbie Flower. Sit back and enjoy.

I think you may have a gun on your hands here. More of a Josh Kelly than Tulip though. There will only ever be one Robbie Flower. The last 5 drafts haven’t produced a player who even approaches Tulip’s talent. Maybe the last 20 in terms of pure footballing ability.

Made the right (and obvious) pick. Your backline is sorted, forwardline is built for the modern game just needs games into the players. Always needed to bolster the midfield. Good luck for next year guys, all the best!

Not sure about Flower, don't think I have seen anyone like him since, was so naturally gifted and underrated in the air, a freak

Sam Walsh is a football player.

He is not a project or a prospect. He is a football player who already understands the game, understands time and space. He will be in our team for round 1 next year. Premiership teams need foundation players like this.

I am thrilled that this turd of a year results in us getting Sam.

You almost want them to start hating on a minority group or start cracking gags about a certain disability just to see a flaw and confirm they are human.

On the draft coverage, Walsh was having a laugh with Butters and Stocker prior to the draft. Whilst probably nervous and not absolutely certain about his future, he would have been fairly confident he would end up a Blue. He wouldn’t have been expecting any of the other players present in the first night to be joining him. Funny how things end up.
