He should have gone down in a tackle. However, our setup behind the ball wasn’t great. A quick kick is a likely scenario in a pressure situation. We had no one there

All our forwards were within 20m of Ats when he got the ball.

They were all gassed and playing for a stoppage.

They should have been in the corridor with 60 seconds to go when we're up by 1?

Nah, mate. They should be around the ball or down the line, and any kick should be looking for touch. There's no excusing that kind of error from someone of his experience. It was all down to him, no one else.

The issue is even if he went in that direction, get some metres on it.

That way we could set up.

It was akin to kicking a ball back to the coach at training who is setting up forward plays. Clanger personified.

Don’t forget to ice your weekend by reading how s**t Hawks were going to be post 2010...page 1

I think it’s a bit harsh on Shaun.. sure it went straight to a Bombers player but dying seconds he was just trying to clear it out of there. It would have been marvelous if he could have got another 15 metres or so on it but oh well s**t happens.

There were no North players anywhere in the vicinity of where he kicked it. Or anywhere forward really. He needed to try and run with it for a bit, and either go down in the tackle (even holding the ball would have given us a few seconds to set up) or preferably run with the ball and then kick towards the the boundary. Any stoppage from that possession would have won us the game.

I know it sounds awfully harsh, but he is one of our most experienced players, and we should expect better. But it is what it is. We move on.

Been as dependable as anyone this year. He's allowed to odd ****up. It's just a pity it happened then.

Could pinpoint any one of four or five things in the last few minutes alone. If the leaders in defense had organised a real defender to be on MTW for example and not left it up to a 21 year old mid/forward just one example. Agree Atley has been great this year and seems to have really found the role that gets the best from him. He has been solid week in week out.

It was the bad football we collectively played in the 2nd and 3rd quarters that lost us the game. Not 1 mistake by a player who had a good game, and good season, otherwise.

The BBB miss in the goal square was a shocker. If that was in the last minute - we’d all be blaming him even though he kicked 6!

Although Atley's kick was a terrible decision, Goldstein losing the hitout to McKernan on the wing 10 seconds earlier was just as bad as it got the ball central and out of congestion.

It was a predictable outcome from someone who isn't a natural defender. If the ball spilled to Ziebell he would have hacked the same mongrel kick.

The greater issue is why the lack of leadership and why so poorly drilled given it wasn't that long ago we implemented a run down the clock strategy for such scenarios after a year of losing a lot of close games. It is like something that wasn't hammered into these blokes 5 minutes ago goes in one ear and out the other.

Everyone played their part.. or didn’t. Goldy and BBB failing to mark any of three kicks towards the boundary late, even though they got good hands to the ball on all occasions didn’t help. Even Marley, you could argue, allowed himself to get seriously wrong-footed when he had a teammate covering the outside.

Anyone got a prognosis of the injury?

It all comes down to ligament damage.

I do feel for the poor bastard. It's almost as if our players don't pass the ball to him unless there's an opposition player 3 metres away from him, and he ends up getting smashed. He was going to get injured sooner or later.

Exactly. Been noticing this the whole year, and saw this again several time last night. He is always the victim of hospital handballs and kicks. It’s like they can’t weight their disposals to suit his movement.

Shaun Atley was helped from the field by trainers midway through the final term after his right knee collided with Jack Darling and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

That's from the match report.

Who the * writes this s**t. (Travis King - learn to write English proper you *en numbskull.)

Can we tell the NSW coppers that bloke's nose collided with Taylor Garners fist?
