Player Watch #19: Griffin 'Gus the Goose-stepper’ Logue - recovering well from ACL injury

North Melbourne has held off Richmond’s strong interest to win a commitment from Griffin Logue, who has officially asked to become a Kangaroo.

Logue requested a trade to North in his exit meeting on Thursday despite teammates trying at the weekend to convince him to stay.

He found himself out of the Dockers’ senior side on occasion this year – given the club’s defensive depth – then was used as a forward for much of the second half, but has played his best football down back.

Logue is an ideal fit for new coach Alastair Clarkson’s Roos, who desperately needed more support for Ben McKay, an intercept specialist also tasked with minding the best opposition forward.

The trade request to the Kangaroos gives Logue’s management firm, Corporate Sports Australia, significant leverage in talks with Fremantle.

Light tap on the back for saying back in April this would be the shrewdest signing for us. He's not going to win them all but the flow on effect for McKay and Corr in particular will be incredible to watch. Adding Logue and Dawson in the last few months has probably finished off our defence for a few years with depth available and knowing Clarkson likes to play off half back with runners. It's nice to think another line is looking good, especially knowing the midfield just needs run on the wing.

Once it’s over the line, I look forward to seeing Griff and Buckets build what will hopefully be a defensive partnership that will shoot us towards number 5. Will allow Corr to play smaller too which is where he done well for the giants.

You watch Freo starting talking up Richmond’s interest to try and get something better than PSD…

Let’s all try to take everything we hear especially from the WA media in the next few weeks with a grain of salt. It will all be Freo propaganda to leverage a better deal than pick our 55?

Probably need 5 or 6 VFL games before he learns our systems and break into the senior line-up.
Wait and see.
Because Clarko is coming in everyone will be on the same page regarding our systems. He will have completely new game plans to use the players that we will have in 2023...
