Walker is ample reason that key position players should come from free agents, matured age draft and delisted free agents. We must focus on getting elite midfielders.

An interesting one is Josh. Started his career at Geelong's cattery Cats where he managed 17 games over seasons 2012-2014 during which time he was delisted and subsequently redrafted. Infairness the Geelong Cattery Cats were a top four finishing side during that period.

But it was Josh who would rise in 2015 for the Cattery Cats as they slide down the ladder (tenth). He played his most games of his career in 2015 well until 2020 but we'll get to that. He managed 16 games and booted a whopping 19 goals. Now only if he was playing in the Premier League....

Alas the Cattery Cats had seen enough and Josh was homeless:(

But when the stars align, they well.... align 🤷‍♂️. Welcome to the Fitzroy Bear Lions Josh. Brissy and Josh were the perfect fit, Josh needed a home and Brissy needed footballers. They had finished 2015 second last and knew with Josh that 2016 would be a much better year, they finished second last again. There was a lot of hi-fiving at the drug addled Bombers expense who kept them off the bottom by 0.64 %.
But Josh did what Josh does in 2016, managed 16 games and booted 23 goals, was I heard contemplating white boots and a headband as he was now the marque forward for Brissy and I agree they should dress appropriately.

In 2017 Josh was primed for a big year he was chock full of confidence after his best ever return in the big Leagues in 2016. He only managed 11 games for 9 goals in the team that would finally salute and take home the spoon. Josh wasn't concerned cause he knew he is a bottom side specialist.

2018 rolled on and so did Josh, at the time he wouldn't have seen the writing on the wall. He managed 14 games for two goals, I assume as Brissy started to gather momentum that he was shifted to the backline, well I hope he was.

2019 was a disaster for Josh he managed 11 games and didn't kick a goal, that wasn't the reason it was a disaster for him of course. Brissy finished second on the ladder and were desperate for a second big, strong marking forward. So they did the obvious thing and delisted Josh, homeless for the third time.

Josh though wasn't concerned he knew how the League worked and someone else would be filling the bottom four void left by Brissy.

Enter North Melbourne, 2020 was Josh's year to shine, 17 games the most he'd ever amassed in his 9 years strutting his stuff in the big leagues.Think.About.That! North won 3 games in 2020 and Josh was right back at home playing for a bottom dweller.

2021 will be another chapter in Josh's unremarkable career, can North hold their grip on a bottom four position ? Early signs would suggest that as a strong possibility, especially now as Josh has moved to the forward line where he'd failed for both Geelong & Brissy previously.
Josh has been in ripping pre season form after booting 3 big ones against fellow battlers the Hawthorn Hawks, ensuring his selection for our round one clash.

In Josh's crazy world, the worst thing that could happen is if we win. Him and winning sides don't get along.

Last week Dunstall referred to Josh as a journeymen, that is the polite way to put it of course :)

Hes an interesting one - one I like but I like him in the backline. The backline is where he has played his best football, both for us and Brisbane.

He's also very handy as a 2nd/3rd tall backman that can go forward and kick goals if needed.

It's unfortunate for him that we now need him forward and forward as the experienced key forward.

This is a big risk for him because it will likely impact on his ability to get a new contract IMHO unless he's used back as well, swinging with Ziebel for example.

Good luck Josh! Kick 35+ goals and prove us wrong!!

Are these player profiles centralised somewhere? Great read.

Plenty of players that have played in the AFL have had more skill and talent than Josh but he’s going to end up playing more games than a lot of them. Yep pretty much a classic journeyman and probably wouldn't get a game at the Richmond‘s and Port’s of the world but nevertheless I admire his attitude and persistence. Can’t fault him since he’s been with us.

Oh any particular player coming to mind? I mean I don't do a Cunnington type as I see no point. I prefer to look at often forgotten or much maligned players. Big Soup Campbells is one who has slipped under the radar.

That's a good point and probably we could have a stickied thread for such fine work- the mods aka flat earthers of course run a tight ship around here and don't like change 😁

I’m going to go against the grain and point out that this is the worst Bigfooty post in the history of Bigfooty posts, possibly ever 😉

Well firstly I will say you need to to familiarise yourself with more of my work. Secondly I'll take that as a compliment. Thirdly you see there only ever one worst post and one best post, the rest are Brad Scott style middling finishes.

Former players might be a goldmine

yes i agree , Aherns, Durdins , Woods etc

But up next the curious case of Aiden Bonars.

Strong start TAO.

My concern is your first couple of profiles are Jack Ziebell NAB Cup 2009.

Looked like the next Michael Voss ("out of the darkness comes Jack Ziebell") on a very dark night.

Your challenge is to keep picking off difficult options I reckon. No Sam Powerss types, you need to swing for some fan favourites to really open up the play.

Keep him in the backline with Corr as KPD. Move Taz forward. Who cares about results as we are re building. Larkey needs the support.

Ha!That could upset a few.Would have loved to have done Petries, especially the last three seasons where he'd retired from North without telling anyone.

I don’t know what you’re complaining about, we all got to watch Drew’s weekly fun run participation.
Taught BBB the ropes if you run 14km a game you don’t have to make contact.

Fun fact. Drew and Josh collectively scored 7.5 in a Semi Final game in 2014.

This guy deserves more respect after the port game.

He might lack a yard and not be as agile as he'd like but he was the only guy presenting any kind of tall target inside the 50 except for Todd's brief foray down there.

I'd ditch the swingman bit and give Josh the main KF post. At least I'd know he'll give a contest everytime, is a very strong mark and a decent enough kick. He provides a hard-working, reliable target for our young team to look for.

Nick and Cameron to a lesser extent can play supporting roles until they show enough want and actual output to shove Josh out of the position. At the moment it should be his.

He's as honest as the day is long, which is a lot more than I can claim for a few others at the moment.

There's plenty of honest players who could be relied on to do a job for their coach who still found themselves with a premiership.

And plenty more talented ones who goated it up once too often and found their career cooked before it really started.

If we had a fully stocked midfield right now I'd be more confident going into a grand final with Josh Walker playing the Doug Wade "just contest it" role than the younger, sexier options.
